This category A listed building has been brought lovingly up-to-date whilst retaining lots of its original quirks and character. The cosy sitting room is the perfect place to relax in the evenings with a wood-burning stove at its heart and views out to the loch from the windows and the kitchen is very well-equipped.
A modern bathroom completes the downstairs accommodation and a stone spiral staircase leads upstairs to the attractive double bedroom that has unusual circular windows so that guests can look out over the loch without even getting out of bed or sit by the other window and relax with a book.
There is off road parking with a little path that leads to the front door and to the rear of the lodge is a grassed garden with lots of mature trees that leads down to the river (care to be taken).
Old Garron Bridge just along the road was built way back in 1749, spanning the 40 feet over the River Garron that flows from the Dubh Loch down to Loch Fyne. It has since been bypassed by a modern road bridge from which there are great views back toward the bridge and lodge.
Inveraray (1.5 miles) is a picturesque town that hugs the shore of the loch with some excellent eateries and a good range of interesting shops to wander around. Whisky lovers will particularly want to stop by the Loch Fyne Whiskies shop to stock up on some fine malts.
The town is dominated by the All Saints Bell Tower that has 10 different bells that are rung by visiting bellringers throughout the year and during the annual Inveraray Bell Ringing Festival.
Golfers will enjoy a round on Inveraray’s 9 hole parkland golf course and a must see in the area is, of course, the impressive Inveraray Castle with its 180 hectares of beautiful gardens. From the car park a woodland walking route leads up to the 18th century watchtower at the top of Dun Na Cuaiche where gorgeous expansive vistas of Loch Fyne, Inveraray and the castle can be enjoyed/photographed.
The upper part of Loch Fyne has been classified as a Marine Protected Area as the muddy seabed is the delicate habitat of a range of sea life and colourful fireworks anemones, named as such due to their tentacles that stretch up and resemble streaks of light made by fireworks.
Boats can be hired nearby for fishing trips further out on the loch and there are plenty of mountain biking trails in the surrounding countryside.
At Argyll Adventures (4 miles) there are climbing walls to try out and if your aim is good there is also paintball, laser blast and crossbow shooting on offer. Horse riding is also available with rides that lead right along the shores of Loch Fyne itself.
Around the top of Loch Fyne are the Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens at Cairndow (8 miles) where an array of beautiful plants and flowers awaits. Particular seasonal highlights include the rhododendrons in spring and the wonderful shades of colour to be found in the autumn as the leaves on the trees start to turn.
