Dating all the way back to 1830, Innis Bheatha (meaning meadow of the birches) has been extended from the original Highland cottage to offer spacious accommodation with room to spread out into, as well as plenty of original character and charm.
There is a cosy winter sitting room with an open fire and when the house was extended a second larger summer sitting room was created with picture windows, a charming window seat and a natural stone fireplace that surrounds the wood-burning stove.
The kitchen is farmhouse in style with a colourful 2 oven Aga at its heart and the choice of an electric hob and oven if you prefer. There is a handy breakfasting area in the kitchen in addition to the separate formal dining room and also on this level is a bathroom and shower room.
Upstairs are a double bedroom, a twin room and a single bedroom that all have great views out over the garden. On the mezzanine level up a separate staircase is the roomy and bright master suite that has a king-size bed, en suite bathroom and a lovely Juliet balcony to enjoy the views from.
The house stands within 3 acres of pretty garden grounds with lots of mature plants and trees and a pond, so care should be taken particularly with children.
A pretty woodland path from the garden leads right down to the stony shore of Loch Shieldaig where moorings are available and further along the shoreline there are many inlets sheltering picturesque sandy beaches.
There is good fishing nearby and hill walkers can test themselves on the mountainous landscape of Torridon (29 miles). The Torridon Countryside Centre has a 3D model showing the topography of the area so it is a good place to visit prior to planning further exploration of the mountains.
In walking distance at Badachro (1.5 miles) there is an excellent pub that serves delicious meals featuring lots of fresh local seafood. Further on at Red Point there are two spectacular sandy beaches that just beg to be explored.
Head north up the coast to Gairloch (5 miles) for supermarket shopping, watching the boats bobbing out in the bay, or taking to the water yourself on a boat trip out to see some of the local wildlife including dolphins, seals and even the occasional whale.
The Gairloch Heritage Museum is also interesting to wander around with its exhibits on the village’s history and a fascinating replica of a 1940s shop.
