In the spacious and bright sitting room a really cosy and welcoming atmosphere is created by the fire crackling away in the wood-burning stove. Comfy seating is positioned alongside facing French doors that open out to a raised deck and show off the delightful loch vista. As well as a formal dining room with even more loch views, the kitchen has the lovely addition of a little breakfasting area.
A twin bedroom with a window seat to admire the scenery from and a bunk room with full-sized bunk beds have been laid out downstairs and, also on this level, are a WC and a cupboard that houses the washing machine. An elegant staircase then leads up to the two appealing double bedrooms, both of which benefit from super king-size beds and smart, contemporary en suite shower rooms.
In the garden a well-positioned seating area makes the very most of the outlook across fields to the loch and to the rear is an enclosed courtyard. There is also an outbuilding that houses a games room with a table tennis table. The farmhouse is set up around half a mile of private track that should be driven slowly and, as this is a working farm, care should be taken with children.
The Otter Estate encompasses over 1,800 acres so there is plenty to discover right on the doorstep, including a lovely sandy beach that is in easy walking distance of the house.
As the Kilfinan Hotel is only 1 mile away it is a great place to head to for a drink or a meal from their seasonal menu. The excellent Oystercatcher restaurant at Otter Ferry (3.5 miles) is widely known for its tasty seafood so is also well worth a visit.
No trip to the region would be complete without seeing the gorgeous sandy beach at Kilbride Bay (9 miles) on Loch Fyne’s eastern shore. With amazing views over to the Isle of Arran and wildlife to spot out in the water including otters and seals, it is a very pleasant place to spend the day.
The picturesque town of Inveraray (39 miles) is just over an hour’s drive away where the striking, turreted Inveraray Castle is sure to impress. The castle’s gardens are really something to behold with 16 acres of manicured lawns and mature plants and trees to wander around. In season, a wide array of flowers burst into bloom bringing with them a riot of colour that is quite delightful.
A ferry service from Colintraive (16 miles) runs over to the Isle of Bute and as it only takes 5 minutes it is easy to pop across in the car for a day trip. Once on the island it can be fully explored by walking parts of the West Island Way walking route that allows a lot of the pretty scenery to be taken in.
For a truly unique experience whilst on Bute, Leafield Alpaca Trekking run excursions with their adorable Huacaya Alpacas where visitors can walk and even feed them. 90-minute treks are available or there is a ‘mini trek’ that is ideal for children.
