In the heart of the pretty little fishing village of Port Appin in Argyll is Lemara, a charming retreat that is well placed for accessing local amenities and is set amidst some of the west coast’s most captivating scenery.

As the open plan living area has a wood-burning stove it is a great place to gather together for meals or simply relaxing and taking in the nice cosy atmosphere. The comfy seating by the stove is great for toasting one’s toes after day’s spent out and about and the room leads through to a bright sunroom. There are TVs in both the open plan living area and the sunroom, so all viewing tastes can be catered for.
A delightful touch of luxury can be found in the master bedroom which has been dressed in soothing tones throughout. As well as having a handy dressing table and a super king-size bed there is also a free-standing, rolltop bath in the room to enjoy a good long soak in.
Both the master bedroom and other attractive double bedroom make use of a lovely modern shower room with a walk-in shower.
The patio area to the front of the house has seating for al fresco meals and the sea can even be seen whilst eating. Private, off road parking is provided and there is an enclosed grassed garden area alongside.
For a small village, Port Appin is well catered for with a grocery shop just a couple of minutes’ walk away and two excellent hotel restaurants in easy walking distance.
The Airds Hotel offers cream teas and gourmet dining, while the Pier House Hotel has a bar stocked with a good range of whiskies and gins and a menu that features lots of fresh, local seafood.
The passenger ferry heads over to the Isle of Lismore from the pier just along the road so it is ideal for popping over for a day trip to explore the Pictish heritage of the fascinating island. It only takes 15 minutes to get over to Point at the north of the island and bikes can be taken on board. Wildlife abounds all around with the chance to see seals and various seabirds and there is also a café that makes a good stop off.
One of Scotland’s most iconic sights can be found under 10 minutes’ drive away from the house. Castle Stalker (3.5 miles) dates back to the mid-15th century and sits on its own island on Loch Laich which is an inlet of Loch Linnhe. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate capturing the castle’s evocative beauty and private tours can be arranged for a proper insight into what castle life would have been like.
Oban (19 miles) is certainly worth a visit for supermarket shopping, trying out some canoeing or sea kayaking or playing a round of golf on the 18 hole course at the Glencruitten Golf Club. Oban is a hub for ferry trips out to some of the farther flung islands so further day trips are easily possible.
