Overview

Guests have the chance to really switch off here and take in the soothing sounds of nature from the nearby stream babbling by to the birds singing in the trees. Once a fire has been set in the sitting room’s wood-burning stove, the temptation to snuggle up in front of it will inevitably set in but the rest of the house begs to be explored first. As well as comfy seating around the stove there is a lovely window seat that is a great place to settle down with a morning coffee whilst looking out over the front garden.

Opening up the glass doors from the dining room onto the bright and light kitchen creates a large, partly open plan space to linger over a tasty spread. Underfloor heating has been made use of downstairs which is a nice added luxury and the laundry facilities are tucked away in the little utility room where there is also a handy drying rack and door to the garden.

A traditional country style of presentation is found in the bedrooms upstairs with two double rooms (one with en suite shower room) with king-size beds that are perfect to stretch out on for a good night’s kip. At the back of the house are two twin bedrooms with pretty garden views, as well as a neat family bathroom.

Bistro style seating is set up by the front door and to the side lies a large outdoor dining table, which easily fits everyone around it and is the ideal spot to fire up the BBQ in sunny weather. The semi-detached house is set down around 500 metres of farm track so care should be taken.

Map & Local

This is a great base for lots of scenic walks that lead off into the surrounding woodland. Electric bike hire (or traditional) is available just a couple of miles away from the house, which is a fantastic way of seeing some of the beautiful scenery with a bit of a helping hand on some of the hills.

One of the most iconic attractions in the area is stunning Castle Stalker (2 miles) that is recognisable the world over and is even more impressive in person. Tours head by boat over to the islet that the 14th century tower house sits on with knowledgeable guides who share their passion for the castle’s rich history.

A short drive away is Port Appin (3 miles) where the community shop has a good range of supplies and a delivery of fresh bread and baked goods that arrives every day. The village is home to two outstanding hotel restaurants that specialise in fresh seafood and The Old Inn pub is known for its excellent steaks.

From Port Appin it is only a 15 minute ferry ride over to the gorgeous, fertile Isle of Lismore. Cars can’t be taken on this ferry but bikes are allowed and, as the fairly flat island is only 10 miles long with a single track road running its length, they are a good option for fitting as much exploring as possible into a day trip.

Countless walking routes can be found nearby and for a real challenge the foot of Ben Nevis is only half an hour’s drive away. It is no mean feat to get to the summit and back, taking approximately 7 to 9 hours in total with sturdy footwear and plenty of layers being absolute necessities. Ballachullish (16 miles) is the gateway to magnificent Glencoe and the Glencoe Mountain Resort (30 miles) is a mecca for winter sport enthusiasts.
