Coll Cottage has been renovated and modernised to embody an idyllic, cosy space required for a relaxing stay. The whitewashed, rustic exterior of the cottage opens to a communal space with oak laminate flooring and the homely warmth of a multi-fuel stove. Upon entering, you’re welcomed by a comfy seating area, a TV and a dining table. This room is the perfect communal space for family and friends to cosy up around the fire, have a warm cup of tea, or a hearty meal at the end of a thrilling day exploring the island.
Surrounding the communal space are the bedrooms and kitchen. Tucked away to the left and right are the two bedrooms. The first bedroom features a relaxing King-size bed and a view of the magnificent Loch Eatharna to wake up to. The second bedroom is a twin room with a window looking out onto the enclosed garden area. Both bedrooms are augmented by oak frames on the beds and a luxury Herwick wool striped carpet that adds just that extra bit of comfort.
Close by in the next room, a beautiful kitchen with immaculate wooden surfaces, the kitchen is well-equipped and has a handy washing machine. Past the kitchen is the bathroom with a powerful shower and everything you need to wash off after a day of exploring.
The garden area is the perfect enclosed, private space for unwinding. Whether that’s drinking a hot coffee in the morning and watching the sunrise, seeing the children and dog run around, or relaxing in the evening, gazing into Coll’s infamously breathtaking dark sky; the garden has endless perks (please keep an eye on dogs as while the garden is enclosed, pets may be able to jump over the bank at the back of the garden).
There is plenty of parking for cars, bikes and even boats, so guests can bring anything they wish for the perfect adventure.
The beauty of the Isle of Coll begins before you even reach land. If travelling over by ferry, dolphins, sharks, seals and basking sharks can be found on your journey over. The peacefulness of Coll results in its abundance of animals and boat tours are also available to catch sight of the island's sea creatures. Much of western Coll is an RSPB reserve and animals such as corncrakes, otters, hedgehogs, hares and Highland cows can be found around Coll; there’s plenty of wildlife on the island for those curious and determined to find them.
There are many large and small beaches to explore, a mere car journey or bike ride away from Coll Cottage. Whether exploring the wildlife or letting the dogs and kids run around on an empty beach, there are many opportunities and activities to keep you busy. The village store, post office, café and Coll Hotel are all less than a 5-minute walk from the cottage. Not only is Coll perfect for daytime activities, there’s more to discover in the evenings as Coll has the unique charm of being a dark sky island. Watch the beautiful skies and stars uninterrupted, as Coll is noted as one of the best islands in the UK to stargaze.
The Coll Hotel has a restaurant and bar, which has been run by the Oliphant family for years. The restaurant is known for its delicious and fresh seafood and is proud to locally source the majority of its menu. Dine in at the restaurant, then have a dram with the locals and find out Coll’s secrets and hidden gems. As such, the owner of Coll Stores has lived on Coll all his life and runs the distillery. The shop itself has just undergone recent renovations, is full of ample supplies and is just a 2-minute walk from Coll Cottage.
Coll is accessible by the CalMac ferry which leaves from Oban every day and during the summer months, there are often two ferries per day going from Oban to Coll and back. As such, Coll is the perfect, remote location for disappearing into the peace and quiet of nature.
