Number one Luskentyre is a special cottage on the Isle of Harris, with the world-famous Luskentyre beach on its doorstep, in one most spectacular parts of the Scottish Outer Hebrides.
This stylish two-bedroom former croft cottage, located 9.4 miles from the main community of Tarbert, boasts jaw-dropping views of the white sands and turquoise waters of Luskentyre beach – as well as a sheltered hot tub where guests can soak it all in.
The beautifully renovated two-bed cottage is entered via a porch and cloakroom which leads into a spacious living room, where an original stone wall feature, with downlights, gives an impressive welcome. And with a large sofa, fireplace and Smart TV in this cosy room, it’s the ideal place to sit back and relax.
The kitchen is large, modern, and well-equipped, with trendy furnishings and a home-from-home feeling that blend perfectly with the location – complete with a view of golden sands from the kitchen sink. There is also a charming dining room, with a light coastal décor and more striking views.
The upstairs offers two king-size bedrooms, each one bright, airy and overlooking the sea. Also upstairs is an on-trend and well-appointed bathroom.
Outside this pet-friendly cottage is a fully-enclosed expansive garden and lawns, which wrap around the house, providing numerous vantage points to gaze at the stunning panorama.
The beach is a short 300 metre walk, or one-mile drive away. Guests can also cross the road into a field to a private gate, leading to a rocky part of the beach and estuary, which when the tide is up, is perfect for water pursuits.
A residential property is located nearby, but this immaculate cottage enjoys a private and peaceful setting, with ample off-road parking.
With its idyllic location, aquamarine waters, and host of wildlife, 1 Luskentyre is a magical spot to choose for an adventure on Harris.
The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness, or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or from Ullapool to Stornoway.
With spectacular scenery, beaches, mountains and wildlife, the Isle of Harris off the north west coast of Scotland offers a unique part of island life in the Outer Hebrides.
This dramatic and special holiday destination – which is connected to Lewis and classed as the third biggest island on the British Isles – is a paradise of white sands, crystal blue waters, rocky landscapes and fresh air pursuits – especially at the stunning location of Luskentyre Sands.
Luskentyre is one of the largest and most spectacular beaches on Harris, and is protected by the island of Taransay, which can be seen across the water – where it is possible to spot dolphins, seals, otters and sea eagles.
This famous beach is situated just over nine miles from the picturesque main village of Tarbert, which means “isthmus” or “crossing point” in Gaelic. With a population of around 550 people, the ferry port is the cultural hub of Harris, and is home to a selection of shops that include the renowned high-quality Harris Tweed and Knitwear. There are also plenty of opportunities in the area to enjoy charming places to eat at and drink, such as The Harris Hotel or Pierhouse Restaurant, as well several art galleries and shops.
Shopping for the essentials can be done at AD Munro’s, Akrams General Store, and John Morrison’s Newsagents, but a large Tesco and Co-Op and wide range of shops can be found at Stornoway, a 36-mile drive away.
There are many walking routes in the Tarbert area, and as it sits on the edge of Loch Tarbert, there’s the chance to go sailing or kayaking on the beautiful clear waters.
Must-see attractions on Harris include the extraordinary Calanais Standing Stones, said to be older than the Pyramids of Giza, the North Harris Eagle Observatory, and the isolated St Kilda, to name a few.
Discover the soul of Tarbert at the Harris Distillery. Famed for its exceptional whiskies and gins, this boutique gem combines tradition and innovation. Enjoy the inviting café, offering aromatic coffees and delightful pastries. Immerse yourself in the distillation process through guided tours, unveiling the secrets behind the unique flavors that define the Isle of Harris.
From surfing, sailing, hillwalking or cycling, to tropical-looking beaches, vast culture, history, crafts and wildlife, the Isle of Harris is a breathtaking destination, which guarantees unforgettable experiences.
