Overview

The living space features a cosy sitting room with a dining area, adorned with wood panelling and comfortable seating, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the nearby hills. Large windows frame magnificent views of the loch, allowing natural light to flood the space. Binoculars by the window offer the chance to spot wildlife right from your seat.

The modern kitchen is fully equipped with all you will need for your stay, including a dishwasher, ensuring meal preparation and cleanup are effortless. A dining table in the kitchen adds to the choice and convenience. Also on the ground floor, you will find a comfortable twin bedroom, a double bedroom with loch views, a family bathroom, and a separate shower room, each with a WC and a handy utility room.

Upstairs, the wood panelling continues, lending a cosy, cabin-like feel to the double and twin bedrooms. Both rooms are comfortably furnished and provide lovely views over the surrounding landscape. At the top of the stairs, a spacious landing area provides a peaceful retreat for indulging in a good book. The cottage is heated with an air-source heat pump, ensuring warmth throughout.

The cottage is set at the bottom of a steep driveway and has seating where you can sit and admire the water whilst keeping an eye out for the seals and otters that often play there. The grassed garden area leads straight down to the pebbled shoreline and you can fish right off the rocks.

There is a natural stony slipway that is suitable for launching a dingy or kayaks/canoes. A rocky outcrop to one side creates an informal boundary that gives a great feeling of privacy and makes you think you have the loch all to yourself!

Please be aware that there is a slight drop of approximately 50 to 75 cm from the garden area down to the shoreline.

Map & Local

The quiet single track roads in the area are ideal for walking or cycling and cycle hire is available from the petrol station in Lochcarron (6 miles).

The village also has a lochside golf course, a few shops (one is also a PO), a couple of bar/restaurants and a café. On the way to Lochcarron you can stop off to visit the ruins of the once mighty Strome Castle (2.5 miles) or pick up some traditional tartan at the nearby weavers shop.

Strathcarron (10 miles) has a train station and a bit further round the loch are the lovely Attadale Gardens (12.5 miles) that are open from March to October. There are lots of charming woodland walks amongst the grounds with interesting sculptures and a whole host of plants to try and identify and photograph. Attadale is also the home of the Lochcarron Highland Games that is held every summer with traditional Scottish dancing, pipe music, caber tossing and tug of war, among its many events.

Just under an hour’s drive away is the pretty village of Plockton (24 miles) that is known for its palm tree-lined harbour. The beautiful coral beach a mile or so out of the village is certainly worth a visit with its white sand and sparkling turquoise waters. It is a popular spot for sea kayakers and you can try it out yourself as lessons are available - after all, what better surroundings are there to learn in?

Groceries deliveries to Ardaneaskan can be arranged, as the nearest supermarket is in Kyle of Lochalsh (29 miles). The bridge to the Isle of Skye begins in the village so it is easy to spend a day sampling some of the delights the island has to offer.

The picturesque fishing village of Applecross (22.5 miles) is under an hour’s drive away to the north. To get there you can cross the famous Bealach na Ba (pass of the cattle) mountain road that is known as one of the most dramatic roads to drive in Scotland with tight hairpin bends and steep gradients, some of which are really not for the faint hearted. There is also an alternative route if you are not feeling so brave.
