Those looking for peace and relaxation should look no further than Cnoc Gorm, a traditional detached house set in an elevated position in the little settlement of Sallachy, near Dornie in Ross-shire.
Quick Info

At the heart of the sitting room is a wood-burning stove that keeps everything nice and toasty. The room is bright and sunny as it has triple aspect windows and there is a handy dining area to gather together for meals at.
There is a lovely double bedroom with a king-size bed and pretty, decorative fireplace and a WC to be found downstairs. Upstairs is a spacious double bedroom and a further twin bedroom that make use of a bright and airy bathroom that has a roll top bath with a rainfall shower over.
Outside, the secure garden is extensive and well established with lots of mature shrubs and trees that shelter the house and a seating area for al fresco dining. The garden offers a wonderful vista out over Loch Long to the stunning mountains beyond. Gorgeous sunsets can be enjoyed and as there is very little light pollution the dark night skies are amazingly clear and perfect for stargazing.
Birds visit the garden and there are often deer in the field behind the house as well as other wildlife to look out for including cheeky seals out on the loch and buzzards and magnificent white-tailed sea eagles soaring in the skies above.
There is great walking and hiking all around and good fishing from the shores of Loch Long with cod, plaice and mackerel to try to catch. Cross the bridge over the loch to get to Dornie (5 miles) where there is a village shop and a choice of places to dine with a pub that serves bar meals and a hotel restaurant.
A must see near Dornie is Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks that sits on its own island at the joining of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. A stone walkway leads over to the castle and the interesting tours offer a real insight into its fascinating history. A ‘virtual tour’ is available in the visitor centre for when the weather isn’t so good and there is also a café and a gift shop with Scottish souvenirs.
Kyle of Lochalsh, just 15 minutes’ drive away, has shops and a supermarket and is also the gateway over to the wonderful Isle of Skye which is the ideal destination for a day trip.
It is well worth a visit to the picturesque seaside village of Plockton (14 miles) to watch the yachts bobbing out in the water from the palm tree-lined harbour. Plockton is known for its fresh, local seafood and there are a few excellent eateries where you can sample some for yourself.
Those of a green fingered persuasion will love spending an afternoon at Attadale Gardens (17 miles) that is open from April to October with an array of beautiful plants, flowers and trees to admire and delightful sculptures to spot along the way.
