This delightful little house is tucked away at the north end of the village, un-overlooked and in its own enclosed garden, it is sunny, secluded and very peaceful. The interior has been most comfortably and attractively appointed to make a perfect haven for two people.
There is a large, bright and open plan living space with plenty of comfortable seating around the very chic, wall-mounted living flame gas fire that provides extra warmth to an already snug little house. There are also French doors out to a lovely little decked area (with furniture) and with these open you feel like you are really ‘bringing the outdoors in’.
The stylish kitchen area, with its feature black and white tiling, is modern and well-equipped with the dining area handily situated right alongside. With three normal windows and three roof windows, the whole living area is flooded with light, further enhanced by the light décor and wood flooring.
The double bedroom is elegant and well-furnished with all that guests will need in terms of comfort and storage. The adjoining bathroom is modern and stylishly appointed with a shower over the bath. There is also a sofa bed in the sitting room, if guests would like separate sleeping accommodation.
Outside there is off-road parking just beside the house and being all on one level, it is also an excellent choice for those of limited mobility.
The village of Lauder makes a most convenient base, with shops, a popular craft shop/cafe and several good pubs and eating places within walking distance. It also has its own golf course.
The bus to Edinburgh passes the road end, so a car-free day in the capital is very much on the cards. If you do decide to drive it is reachable in around a 45 minute drive or you can get there by train in 40 minutes from Stow (5.5 miles). Just outside the village is Thirlestane Castle, which is open to the public.
Here, you are very much midway between the lovely countryside of the Borders, with superb walking, biking, riding and fishing. To the north east, less than an hour will bring you to the East Lothian coast, with sandy beaches, surfing and, of course, the famous golf courses at Luffness, Gullane and Muirfield. If you wish to explore even further afield, there are good road connections to the west and north. This really is one of the places where you can have it all.
However, there is really no need to travel far to find plenty to see and do. The Borders have a rich history which has left its legacy in a great selection of stately homes, picturesque ruined abbeys, peel towers and castles and fine gardens. There are also such scenic delights as St Mary’s Loch, ideal for sailing, wind surfing and picnics, the excellent sandy beach at Coldingham and the spectacular seabird colonies on the cliffs at St Abbs.
