Peace and quiet are easily found during your stay at Park Cottage; however, there are just as many activities and hidden gems to discover if you know where to look. Find the historic ruins of Strome Castle a short walk just down the road (0.6 miles), or for a more challenging adventure, hike neighbouring Bad a’Chreamha. Hire cycling equipment from Lochcarron Garage as well as canoes, a small boat and fishing equipment. Try the cycling circuits of Localsh, Applecross, the Torridon circuit and dozens more.

The brilliant lochside golf course in Lochcarron (4.6 miles) welcomes visitors, with snacks and bar meals available in the clubhouse. Lochcarron also has a sailing club and mountain guides for climbing on Skye, and the higher peaks round about; mountaineering courses are also available locally.

The Applecross Peninsula, reached over the spectacular Pass of the Cattle, is a delight to visit. The sandy beach at Applecross (20 miles) is just behind the village, where walking, wild swimming, paddleboarding, sailing, canoeing and kayaking are extremely popular. There is also a chance to spot red deer, eagles, seals, dolphins, porpoise and otters. The Applecross Inn serves delicious Scottish pub grub and local seafood dishes.

Drive along the shores of Loch Carron to Loch Carron Bistro (3.3 miles), a brilliant spot with views over the sparkling water. The Old Butchers Coffee Shop and Gallery is also on the shores of Loch Carron and a delightful spot for a meal. The Rockvilla Hotel at Lochcarron and the Strathcarron Hotel at Strathcarron (9 miles) both serve good meals, and the Carron restaurant is just a mile further down the Kyle of Lochalsh road. Lochcarron has two well-stocked general stores, one of which is also a post office, and some lovely gift shops. Kyle of Lochalsh is the nearest place for major supermarket shopping.

Picturesque Plockton (21 miles), with its palm trees and yachting marina, is a must-visit during your stay. Heading further north, you will reach Shieldaig and Torridon (26 miles), so beloved of walkers and climbers and on to the famous sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe (50 miles). Under an hour's drive, the Isle of Skye (30 miles) awaits with its many attractions, or if a day in the city appeals, then you could leave the car at Strathcarron Station and take the train up the glen to Inverness (65 miles).
