Melrose House is a large, modern house set amidst the small crofting township of Colbost on Skye that makes the most of its stunning, elevated position by showcasing beautiful views out over Loch Dunvegan throughout.

Set up its own driveway, the house is spacious and bright and is surrounded by a pretty enclosed garden. Inside, guests can settle in for the evenings in the cosy sitting room that has wonderful loch views to enjoy and seals out on the islands of the loch to keep an eye out for.
The wood-burning stove in the kitchen/dining room makes it the ideal place to linger over evening meals or cosy breakfasts, with French doors that lead out to the garden. A little utility room supplements the kitchen and neatly houses the laundry facilities.
There is a double bedroom downstairs and an open staircase from the sitting room leads upstairs to the bathroom and two further luxurious feeling double bedrooms that both have great loch vistas to admire.
For larger groups seeking some of their own space and privacy the house also has a charming annex that has an attractively presented double bedroom, a shower room and an open plan living area with seating, dining and even its own kitchen area.
There is plenty of parking in the gravelled area to the side of the house and the enclosed grassed garden grounds offer more delightful views out towards the scenic coastline of Loch Dunvegan.
The well known Three Chimneys Restaurant is just under a mile away so is reachable on foot (10 to 15 minute walk) for a special lunch or delicious evening meal featuring lots of fresh, local produce.
Foodies will also enjoy trying The Old School Restaurant in Dunvegan and the Steinn Inn (13 miles).
Guided tours of Dunvegan Castle (6.5 miles), the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland, are available and there are 5 acres of beautiful gardens that are a joy to wander around. Wildlife boat trips run out on Loch Dunvegan for spotting the local seal colony basking on the rocks and islands around the loch and perhaps even seeing impressive golden or sea eagles.
The coral beach further up at Claigan (10 miles) is about a mile’s walk from the carpark and is really pretty with clear turquoise waters that look like they have come from the Caribbean!
Just under an hour’s drive away is the island’s largest town Portree (24 miles) that is known for the different coloured houses that line its picturesque harbour.
While visiting Portree it is well worth continuing for another 15 minutes’ drive to see the spectacle of the Old Man of Storr, a dramatic rocky pinnacle that can be seen for miles around. A trail leads right up to it for spectacular views that really cannot be rivalled or simply appreciate it from below as it stands imposingly on the hillside.
