The house is just half a mile away from the lovely village of Fortingall (with pub, hotel and restaurant), with its quaint thatched cottages and old fashioned lamp posts that give the place an old world feel.
The inviting sitting room is tastefully furnished, with ample comfortable seating centred round the lovely wood-burning stove. If you can't quite bear to be away from modern appliances, there is a TV and DVD player and WiFi is included in your stay.
There is a modern open plan kitchen dining room with a well-equipped kitchen area that even has a dishwasher, so you can avoid the dreaded washing up. You are on holiday after all! The welcoming dining area comfortably seats six with a traditional stone fireplace with wood-burning stove to keep it cosy and large sash windows that let the light stream in. Downstairs there is also a useful utility/boot room and a slick, modern shower room with WC and heated towel rail.
Upstairs, a sunny landing connects the three bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed and en suite facilities. Opposite is another spacious bedroom with a comfortable double bed and there is also a warm and bright twin bedroom (with zip-link beds that can convert to super king-size), again with large windows from which to enjoy the views.
The house has its own gated entrance to the beautiful, grassed garden (with furniture, BBQ and secure storage) that lies to the front, side and rear of the house. There is also a gravelled area that provides ample parking for two cars and it is all very separate from the adjoining house.
Fortingall itself is home to the famous Fortingall yew tree that you can see towering over the churchyard. This magnificent tree is estimated to be as much as 5,000 years old and is said to be the oldest tree in Europe.
You can also visit the nearby 'Carn na Marbh' or 'Mound of the Dead', a reused Bronze age tumulus that was used to bury the victims of the plague. Fishing is also available in the village.
Kenmore (6 miles) has grocery shops, a PO, riding school, golf course and a lovely sandy beach for water sports and boat hire. There is great mountain biking available at Drummond Hill (2 miles) and of course there is the famous skiing and snowboarding mecca at Glencoe (50 miles). Aberfeldy (8 miles) has a distillery, cinema and leisure centre.
Walkers and climbers will want to head for the central Highland's highest mountain Ben Lawers (10 miles). It stands majestically at nearly 4,000 feet in the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve, which is known for the rare Alpine plants that thrive there. If you don't fancy tackling Ben Lawers itself, there are a variety of other walking routes for different fitness levels within the reserve.
Pitlochry (22 miles) hosts its annual Highland Games every September. The games attract visitors from all across the UK, with its pipe bands, highland dancing and traditional games including 'tossing the caber'. For those on the whiskey trail, there are distilleries at both Blair Athol and Edrarour, near Pitlochry. The bustling cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh can be reached in a couple of hours' drive each and they have all the shops, eateries and tourist attractions you could wish for.
