The usual reaction on entering Dunfuinary Cottage must surely be - wow! You would have to be very jaded indeed not to be quite stunned by its amazing outlook across the waters of Loch Etive.

There are decking platforms on three sides of the cottage too, so you can follow the sun round as you quite possibly take root in front of this wonderful panorama and don't want to move for the duration of your holiday.
Just 5 miles from Oban and a mile from the pretty village of Connel (with restaurants, hotels and shop/PO), the cottage stands on its own and is accessed by steps from the road. While the A85 runs past and above the cottage at the rear, the house is double glazed and the acoustics seems to take any traffic noise over your head.
The cottage has been beautifully designed on two levels (with three internal stairs) to take advantage of the rake of the hill, with stylish wooden flooring throughout. The open-plan sunken sitting room has a variety of seating to suit every mood so you can curl up in the corner or lie on the chaise by the window to admire the view. There is also a stylish wood-burning stove with feature flue that keeps the whole place cosy and with the French doors out to the decking area open, you can feel like you are really ‘bringing the outdoors in’.
The spacious kitchen/dining area is neat and well-equipped and again has French doors out to that wonderful decking area. There is also a cosy double bedroom and a bathroom with bath and shower. Dunfuinary provides incredibly generous, modern accommodation for two in an absolutely stunning setting.
Outside, besides the decking, a charming grotto garden lies to the side of the cottage with furniture on a small terrace and a path that leads down to your own private 'beach'.
Having found such a heavenly spot, it may indeed be hard to tear yourself away, but it would be a shame to come to such a beautiful part of Scotland's west coast and not do some exploring.
From Oban, you can take day trips to Mull, Iona and several of the smaller islands. There is a lovely safe sandy beach just 3 miles away at Tralee Bay by Benderloch, where there is also karting.
Just 8 miles up the road is the Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine, which operates a seal rescue project and where you can see (and sometimes touch) the amazing range of sea creatures which inhabit the surrounding waters.
Beyond Appin and still within easy reach of the cottage, is Ballachulish (with a hotel, shop and golf course) and the entrance to atmospheric and majestic Glencoe. At The National Trust centre there you can learn all about the local flora and fauna and also the glen’s tragic history. Now, of course, it is a mecca for climbers and, in winter, for skiers as well. For a real challenge, at Kinlochleven near Ballachulish is the Ice Factor, the national ice climbing centre which caters for all levels of ability.
A week in this enchanting cottage will most certainly not be enough.
