Swan Cottage is one of a pair of traditional cottages that sit in a delightful situation right by the River Earn, in the heart of Perthshire just 7 miles from Crieff.

The cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard with great attention to detail and design flair throughout. The sitting room is warm and inviting with cosy seating gathered around the multi-fuel stove and a lovely dining area beside the French doors that lead out to a charming deck (with furniture) that is the perfect spot for al fresco breakfasts. The neat kitchen is well-equipped with a Belfast sink and an Aga cooker with traditional drying rack over.
All on one level, the cottage has two bedrooms. The master double room is spacious and relaxing with a king-size bed and plenty of storage. The other bedroom is a large twin room with a nice view out to the garden. The nautically-themed bathroom is light and bright with a small bath and a traditional copper shower over.
Outside there is parking right by the door and a large grassed enclosed garden to the rear with a gravelled seating area. There is also an inviting summerhouse with seating inside that looks right out over the River Earn, which runs alongside the garden.
Please note: There are (quite steep) steps that lead down to the river’s edge. This has now been fenced, but care should still be taken.
The cottage has fishing rights for trout on the river, or for salmon fishing, permits are available in walking distance at Kinkell Bridge (0.5 miles).
Auchterarder (5 miles) has a variety of shops, a bank, a small supermarket and lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants. It is also home to the world renowned Gleneagles Golf Course whose PGA Centenary Course was the venue for the Ryder Cup in 2014. You can splash out and play on one of the iconic courses there, or you could try the 18-hole Auchterarder Golf Club that is just a stone’s throw away and offers both round and day passes.
Heading north towards Loch Earn you will find the town of Crieff (7 miles), that has some lovely little shops and eateries. The Crieff Hydro Hotel offers various outdoor activities including riding, archery and quad biking – you can even zip around the grounds on a Segway! If you are looking for something more relaxing you could book yourself in for a day of pampering in the hotel spa. Just outside the town is the Glenturret distillery, the home of Famous Grouse whisky, where you can take a tour and buy a ‘wee dram’ to take home with you.
The village of Comrie (14 miles) sits right on the banks of the River Earn and has various interesting independent shops, including a cycle shop that offers cycle hire and various mountain biking trails for you to explore. Just north of Comrie is the impressive Deil’s Cauldron and Wee Couldron waterfalls which can both be reached by a picturesque circular walking route from the village.
St Fillans (19 miles) sits right at the head of the eastern end of Loch Earn and is a popular spot for fishing. There are a whole host of water sports available on the loch, from water skiing and wake boarding to sailing, kayaking and canoeing.
Both Perth (12 miles) and Stirling (24 miles) are within easy driving distance for day trips, although you can also reach them by train from the station in Auchterarder. Both cities have plenty to offer, including lots of shops, pubs, restaurants, theatres, museums and galleries. Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park just outside Stirling is well worth a visit with a huge selection of wild animals too see, as well as a petting farm, an adventure play area, a zip line, pedal boat hire and plenty of lovely picnic spots.

'Thank you very much for a lovely staycation, just what was needed to relax and unwind. A lovely and well-appointed cottage, so comfortable and peaceful (especially sitting in the summer house). No wildlife spotted in the river but maybe next time!!'
'A lovely week relaxing by the river. Fish jumping (we forgot our fishing rods!!) and quite simply a mesmerising view of the water. A mixed week of weather with a couple of lovely sunsets. The cottage itself is one of the best we have stayed in, well appointed, comfortable and stylish whilst full of character.'
'Second time to the cottage. Once again clean, tidy and peaceful. Had a great time fishing and caught 4 fish! Neighbours are lovely and will definitely be back next year.'
'We have really enjoyed our week in this super cottage, in a beautiful location. We loved the summer house, enjoyed the walks from the door. The baking hut over the bridge is a must visit, the baking is amazing, we had a fab cycle through Strathallan Castle thanks to the advice from the lovely neighbours. We cycled through the estate next door too spotting red squirrels. Thank you for a relaxing break by your beautiful river.'
'Another relaxing week at Swan Cottage! The weather was even kind(ish!) to us. As always, the cottage has been comfortable and homely, and we have enjoyed a much-needed break, lovely home baking from next door too! Thanks again.'
