This traditional cottage has been lovingly refurbished and extended and is now a gorgeous country retreat with all of the creature comforts one could wish for. The bright sitting room is the real heart of the house and is kept cosy by its wood-burning stove.
In the large, state-of-the-art kitchen the whole gable end has been made entirely of glass to showcase the gorgeous view out over the surrounding rolling countryside. There is plenty of room for cooking and gathering around the huge oak dining table for lingering evening meals in front of another wood-burning stove.
Downstairs in the family bathroom there is a beautiful rolltop, clawfoot bath to soak in as well as the convenience of a separate walk-in shower. Also on this level is a double bedroom with a lovely modern en suite shower room and both of the bathrooms have the added luxury of underfloor heating.
The other attractive and light bedrooms, two twin rooms and a further double, are laid out upstairs and all have lovely views out over the pretty scenery.
Outside the secure garden is ideal for children to run and play in and there is walking straight off out into the hills all around so make sure to bring along some wellies.
There is a supermarket in Pitlochry (6 miles) where there are some interesting little shops to wander around, or the superstore near Perth delivers to the cottage. Pitlochry is known for its festival theatre and fish dam and from the train station it is only half an hour’s journey into the centre of Perth for day trips.
The River Tummel is famous for its salmon fishing and Loch Faskally that it flows into is the place to try to catch them and also brown trout, pike and grayling. Tackle hire is available, as is boat hire for getting further out on the loch.
Enjoy a round of golf on Pitlochry’s 18 hole course or hone your skills on the 6 hole ‘wee course’ with its practice bunkers and pitching area. Whisky enthusiasts will want to try a tour or tasting at the Blair Athol Distillery or Edradour Distillery just outside Pitlochry.
At Faskally Forest on the outskirts of the town there are pretty woodland paths to explore that lead around Loch Dunmore and in the autumn the forest is transformed into ‘The Enchanted Forest’, an impressive sound and light show that is really quite a spectacle!
The Cateran Trail walking route runs nearby and can be followed in either direction, right in the footsteps of the cattle thieves that terrorised the area back in the Middle Ages. Skiing and snowboarding are available at Glenshee (24 miles) within the Cairngorms National Park.
