The cabin highlights the warming wood-burning stove and raw plaster, providing a snug atmosphere. The large windows and patio doors throughout Chestnut Cabin allow the magnificent and colourful outdoors into the home.
The neat kitchen space is well-equipped for guests and includes a small dishwasher. There’s comfy seating perfect for spending hours gazing out to the south-facing vistas of both Craig and Bolfracks Hill. Open the patio door and sit out on the balcony seats basking amid the variety of flora, blueberries, cherries and native trees, which tower over the cabin. The adjacent shower room has a WC and a handy washing machine.
The double bedroom homes a comfy king-size bed with hanging and clothing storage, and of course, unforgettable views of the immediate setting.
The enclosed garden is perfect for having a wander and taking in the peaceful Perthshire surroundings. Plenty of parking is available outside of Chestnut Cabin.
Enjoy brilliant walks from Chestnut Cabin up the Perthshire Hills; try Weem Hill and Dull Hill in Tay Forest Park, which are perfect for those keen to explore. Tay Forest has an abundance of history and legend seeped in its trees. Discover the woodland trails with unforgettable mountain and loch views, including Loch Rannoch, Loch Tay and Loch Tummel. Bag some Munros, like nearby Schiehallion, or try white-water rafting on the River Tay.
A mile down the road is Highland Safaris, who run mountain, mini, and loch safaris with an experienced guide, to show you all the best Perthshire locations and wildlife in a 4x4. The red deer centre allows you to watch the majestic creatures up close and see the resident owls in a live flight demonstration. Afterwards, stop in for a cuppa at the Highland Safaris cafe.
For more walking/ hiking adventures, join along on the Rob Roy Way or walk out to the Falls of Moness waterfalls on the Birks of Aberfeldy walking route, which is only 1.5 miles long and has excellent views of the falls. A statue of Robert Burns can be found on a bench facing the water in the spot where he is said to have written the famous Birks of Aberfeldy song.
The nearby town of Aberfeldy (3 miles) has a good range of shops to browse, and the town also has a 9-hole golf course that welcomes visitors. On the way into Aberfeldy, stop off at Castle Menzies (under 2 miles), the impressive 16th-century ancestral seat that was restored from a ruin, where visitors can explore an exhibit on its history. Take a tour of the nearby Dewar’s Distillery on the outskirts of Aberfeldy, where no trip would be complete without a tasting in the whisky lounge afterwards.
Head into Aberfeldy for a variety of dining options. Take a quick break at the bookshop, cafe and art gallery at the Watermill. Fuel up after long walks in the Perthshire countryside at Thyme Bistro at Errichel House, which offers delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch options. Moness Resort has a variety of dining options from the daytime cafe and bar, evening meals in the Flemmyng Restaurant, to takeaways and afternoon tea. Dine Lochside at The Waterfront Restaurant (5 miles) on the shores of Loch Tay. The nearby Finish off with a treat from Master Chocolatier Iain Burnett (7.5 miles) towards the charming town of Pitlochry. The City Centre of Perth (34 miles) is just over an hour’s drive away, should a day trip into the city be on the agenda.
