Overview

The open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room is immense, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The spacious kitchen has a traditional Belfast sink, as well as lots of worktop space for cooking preparation. What's more, with the farmhouse dining table alongside it the cook doesn't have to miss out on all the fun.

There is comfortable seating centred around the cosy wood-burning stove, ideal for a cosy night in after a day's walking in the hills. The French doors that lead out to the garden flood the whole room with light, giving a lovely airy feel.

The spacious hallway has handy storage for coats and off it are two attractive double bedrooms. One of them has a king size bed and the other one is a zip link double, which can be unzipped to make into twin beds. The downstairs wet room is modern and fully tiled with a large walk-in shower.

Upstairs, off the spacious landing are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which are bright and light with coombed ceilings and traditional gate latch doors. The family bathroom completes the accommodation, with its wood-panelled bath and Velux window from which you can admire the stunning views.

Outside, there is parking right at the door (there are substantial stone steps up) and a pretty gravelled seating area from which you can further enjoy your beautiful surroundings. It is also an ideal spot for star gazing due to the very dark night skies.

The mile and a half of track leading up to the house is relatively smooth and can be driven (with care) in a normal car. There is another cottage further along the lane (currently unoccupied) , but you still feel that you are really 'getting away from it all'.

Map & Local

Trout fishing is available within the estate and being situated within the Cairngorms National Park means that you are ideally placed to enjoy its range of activities, from walking and climbing to watersports and skiing/snowboarding at the Lecht (2 miles) in the winter.

In a commanding position on the hill is Corgarff Castle (0.5 miles), a mid-16th century medieval tower house that is now open to the public during the summer. It sits within an unusual star-shaped perimeter wall and inside the soldier's bunks that used to be housed there have been reconstructed, right down to fine details such as the paintings on the ceiling.

Tomintoul (7 miles) has riding and cycle hire and there are mountain biking trails on the Glenlivet estate (18 miles). Glenlivet is also home to the famous whisky distillery where you can take a tour and sample a 'wee dram'.

The nearest shop is at Bellabeg (9 miles), which has a small shop with PO, but for supermarket shopping either stock up before you arrive or head to Ballater (18 miles). Nature enthusiasts will enjoy a trip to the RSPB Reserve at Loch Garten (27 miles), where you can see the famous pair of breeding ospreys. There is even a video camera set up at the nest so you can continue to follow their progress when you get home!
