This traditional cottage has been thoroughly modernised and refurbished to a very high standard throughout with a spacious extension housing a wonderful open plan living area.
The chic open plan living area is the real heart of the house and is very light and bright due to its large picture windows and huge sliding doors out to the garden. A stylish dining area leads through to the double height sitting room/kitchen where the wood-burning stove is perfect to curl up and relax in front of. Everything is easily to hand in the well-equipped kitchen that has a central island for extra worktop space and even a little wine fridge. It is supplemented by a neat utility room with laundry facilities.
The main family bathroom is downstairs with the choice of a bath or shower over. The attractive master bedroom with its king-size bed and en suite shower room is also on this level while upstairs is a further double bedroom, a twin bedroom with views out over the surrounding fields and a handy WC.
The porch/drying room is a useful storage area for coats and boots and outside the extensive, enclosed garden is mainly laid to grass with a picnic table for al fresco dining, a decked seating area and mature trees that provide privacy.
A pretty 10 minute walk leads along to the interesting ruins of historical Drumin Castle, a fortified tower house that dates all the way back to the 14th century. It is fascinating to picture how it once would have looked and there are some lovely picnic spots within the walled garden.
The area is known as one of the best places in the UK for stargazing and part of the Glenlivet Estate has even been given Dark Sky Discovery Park status due to the lack of light pollution creating perfect star gazing conditions. The stunning Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, can also been seen from the park and are really quite a sight to behold if you are lucky enough. The best times of year to spot them are March/April and September/October at about an hour and a half after sunset.
The River Avon and the River Livet both run close to the cottage and are great for salmon and trout fishing, with permits available locally. Mountain bikers will enjoy trying the two well-maintained Glenlivet bike trails - a blue route suitable for most ages and abilities and a red route for more experienced riders with gorgeous views of the Cairngorms to enjoy along the way.
The Glenlivet Distillery (1.5 miles), birthplace of the famous single malt whisky, is in walking distance and offers tours and tasting experiences as well as a shop so that you can take a ‘wee dram’ home.
There is a small shop/PO and a golf course in Ballindalloch (4.5 miles) and a supermarket for stocking up at Aberlour (12 miles), where there is also another excellent whisky distillery.
Snowsports enthusiasts will want to head straight to The Lecht (17 miles) for skiing and snowboarding or mountain biking in the summer months. If you prefer watersports, try canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding or windsurfing on Loch Morlich (33 miles).
