Clunie House opens to a beautiful stone floor with a utility room on the right-hand side equipped with a handy sink, washing machine, tumble dryer and drying rack for family and pets to brush off after sandy strolls. There’s also ample fridge space to keep your picnics, ready for a day spent at Banff beach.
Turning left, opposite the utility space, leads you to a cosy snug, warmed by a wood-burning stove, making it the perfect peaceful space to unwind. Further through, a convenient WC sits under the stairs and opposite the external door leading to the enclosed courtyard area. Here, you’ll find an open doorway to the beautiful walled garden.
Follow the stairs to the first floor or continue to the family bathroom equipped with a large bath and separate shower. The combined spacious dining room and stylish kitchen is at the end of the hallway. There is ample seating for 8 guests, and it is very well equipped for cooking family meals or quickly throwing snacks into the air fryer before a day exploring Banff. Here, there is another external door leading to the walled garden. The garden has plenty of outdoor seating, a BBQ for summer evenings and is the perfect secure space for letting the dog out or for the kids to run around.
Make your way up the stairs, passing the beautiful stained-glass window which illuminates the hallway. On the right, you’ll find a super king-size bedroom and a king-size bedroom, both with luxurious chaise lounges. Opposite the bedrooms, the spacious lounge at the rear of the house is an idyllic communal space to rest in front of the cosy wood-burning stove and smart TV, also with comfy sofas and well-placed window seats looking out to the walled garden below and open sea beyond.
Follow the stairs to the next floor, passing a wonderful bookshelf on the right-hand side of the staircase and pick out your next read on your way to bed. On the top floor, a stairgate has been added for children’s safety and leads to two cosy twin rooms with skylight windows. The bedroom to the east holds views to the coast, and the bedroom to the west is opposite a handy bathroom with a large shower.
The beautiful coastal views from Clunie House can be reached by a 2-minute walk. Take the family and stroll along the sandy shores at Banff Beach, looking out to the Moray Firth.
Explore Banff’s rich historical background, notable as a trade centre for weavers, soap makers and silver makers. As such, the Banff Museum (0.3 miles) contains some of the oldest surviving silver teapots in Scotland. Explore Banff Castle (0.2 miles) and the Gaveny Brae Stone Circle. Marvel at John Smeaton’s seven-arched bridge, which connects the town to its neighbouring village, Macduff. Marvel at Duff House (0.7 miles), a Georgian home housing a gallery collection from the National Galleries of Scotland. Take an extended walk from Duff House through Montcoffer Wood and across the Bridge of Alvah. Banff is known for its prior dependence on fishing and salmon exportation, so take the family to the River Deveron for great angling opportunities. Play golf at one of the two great courses at Duff House Royal Golf Course (0.6 miles) and Royal Tarlair Golf Club (2.4 miles). After a round at the Talair Golf Club, pop into Talair Café, a beautiful coastal café nestled behind towering cliffs.
Cycle the coastal route along Banff Bay, cruise along the majestic Aberdeenshire coast and continue your way to Cullen (under 14 miles). Take a pit stop at Cullen Beach, stroll along the coast, or take a surfing lesson on the waves before warming up with a hot bowl of the village's infamous Cullen Skink. Explore the Icehouse and find dolphins at the Scottish Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay (under 30 miles), next to the mouth of the River Spey.
Refuel after coastal adventures with nearby pub grub at The Railway Inn, just a 2-minute walk from Clunie House.
