Found along a private road, past Edencoille House, The Bothy sleeps four guests and highlights luxurious, beautifully finished interiors, underfloor heating to keep guests cosy and large picture windows with stunning views out to the peaceful land surrounding the cottage.
The main area highlights the dining island and open-plan living space with a vaulted ceiling, all kept warm by the central wood-burning stove. The Bothy is thoughtfully decorated with stylish furniture, such as the top of an old gym vault working as the coffee table. At the entrance, a utility room is equipped with a sink, washing machine and pulley, perfect for returning to after exploring the Cairngorms.
The vast shower room has metro-style tiles, a feature mirror wall and a large walk-in shower with a double head. The master bedroom features a super king-size bed, mirrored wardrobe and a handy dressing table. Adjacent is a twin bedroom, comfortably accommodating two, also with a mirrored wardrobe.
An external door from the kitchen opens to the patio area, with outdoor seating for dining al fresco, or simply relaxing and keeping an eye out for frequent visitors, red squirrels and birds snacking on the feeders.
Although the vast garden is not fully enclosed, there’s still plenty of grass and an adjacent forest to allow your canine companion to stretch its legs. There’s ample parking next to The Bothy, and the outdoor summer house is available to guests for bike/ outdoor storage.
Stroll around the adjacent forest with your furry friends or just a mile down the road is the impressive Anagach Woods, where walkers can take a circular 5km walk searching for roe deer, hares, crested tits and pine marten. The River Spey, one of Scotland’s ‘big four’ salmon rivers, is nearby in the town. Try angling, kayaking or canoeing with the family and take an evening stroll along the water's edge.
Head into Grantown-on-Spey for local amenities, including the beloved bookshop, The Bookmark, handmade crafts from Highland Artisans, nestle by the wood burner with your new read or take-home art created by the locals. MacLean’s Highland Bakery in Grantown-on-Spey is the perfect spot to pick up a sweet or savoury treat, like the popular lasagne pie.
Slow down and taste the Highlands at the Cairn distillery, which offers an unforgettable whisky experience. Glenlivet Distillery is a little further or try Speyside’s infamous Malt Whiskey tour.
Rothiemurchus is around half an hour away, take a ‘Hairy Coo Safari’ or unwind in the Smugglers Sauna near Loch an Eilein. Recharge at The Barn Café, which offers delicious treats, a warm cuppa and a large wood-burning stove to warm up by.
Nearby golf courses are just a mile down the road for Grantown-on-Spey's own club, Abernethy Golf Club (6.2 miles) and Boat of Garten Golf Club (10 miles). Journey a little further to the grand Castle Stuart, the magnificent links golf course that hugs the Moray Firth shoreline. Take the family to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (11 miles).
Visit the reindeer at the Cairngorms Reindeer Centre (21 miles). Those searching for winter adventures can visit the Cairngorms Mountain Resort for skiing, mountain biking, tubing (24 miles) or skiing at The Lecht (22 miles, open from mid-December) is ideal for thrill seekers.
The nearest sandy beach at Nairn (23 miles) is known for its brilliant scenery, sandy dunes and resident dolphins. The Highland Wildlife Park (24 miles) is ideal for a family day out during your stay at The Bothy at Edencoille.
