Porters Lodge is set right on the edge of the grounds of Dunrobin Castle with its very own drop of fairytale charm in the shape of a striking tower with notched battlements, near the village of Golspie in Sutherland.

Steps lead up to the front door and through into the main living accommodation which is light, airy and open plan. As the cooking, dining and relaxation areas are all in together everything is easily to hand and it is all kept cosy by a wood-burning stove that is lovely to curl up in front of.
Soothing tones have been used in the decoration of the attractive double bedroom where there is plenty of storage and a door that leads out to a little decked area that is perfect to enjoy the garden from.
The incredibly spacious bathroom is particularly special as it is set within the round tower of the lodge and has a chic rolltop bath that invites you for a soak. A shower has also been provided over it for added convenience.
Parking for up to 2 cars is just alongside and to the rear is a grassed garden as well as the deck that is accessed from the bedroom. As access is just alongside, the lodge is very well placed for touring around the area.
The lodge is right by the castle exit, it is just a 10 minute walk round to Dunrobin Castle itself. As well as the stunning castle, of which there are 20 internal rooms to admire on self-led tours, the gardens are quite a sight to behold. It is clear on first glimpse that they were laid out by an architect and the amazing sea view beyond is the icing on the cake.
A couple of minutes’ drive brings you into Golspie (0.5 miles) where there are shops, supermarkets and various eateries to try out, as well as a pretty beach that draws in visitors with its golden sands and gorgeous views of the Dornoch Firth. A pier juts out into the water effectively splitting the beach in two with a North Beach and South Beach that are both great for a wander no matter what the weather.
Ben Bhraggie is a hill that dominates the landscape of the village with the Duke of Sutherland monument sitting at its summit. A walk up to the monument is rewarded by some beautiful views of the surrounding scenery for miles around.
Another wonderful beach can be explored at Brora (5 miles) where the local cows can sometimes be spotted cooling off and relaxing on the sand. At nearby Star Stables horse riding lessons and pony trekking expeditions are available for all ages and abilities.
If whisky is your tipple then a visit to the Clynelish Distillery near Brora should definitely be on the agenda. Experienced staff run tours that explain the distillation process and there is also the chance to sample and purchase some of their excellent single malt. At the Thompson Brothers Distillery in Dornoch (12.5 miles) both whisky and gin is produced.
