A vestibule welcomes you into Factor’s House, with the adjacent hallway leading you to a cosy living room on the left, equipped with comfy seating, a warming wood-burning stove and majestic views out to Loch Brora, Carrol Rock and Ben Horn behind. On the right of the hallway, a spacious dining room with panoramic views, also towards Loch Brora and the hills lurking behind. Continue past the staircase to the essentials: a kitchen, WC, boot room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, a drying room and a shower room with a toilet.
The kitchen is well-equipped, featuring a dishwasher and a Rangemaster Professional Deluxe with two ovens, a warm plate and a grill. Around the back, two external doors are placed for removing muddy clothes and boots after your adventures in the highland countryside. Brew a coffee from the coffee machine and relax in the lounge, looking out towards the Loch, spotting Highland cattle, red squirrels, golden eagles in the winter or osprey in the spring.
The upstairs holds all 5 bedrooms, boasting four double bedrooms and a twin room. Each room has beautiful views facing out towards the east, south and west for magnificent sunrises, sunsets and out to the peaceful water of Loch Bruar. Each bedroom is spacious, neat and comfortable for guests; the first bedroom also has the added convenience of an en-suite. Many of the bedrooms benefit from small window seats or spots to perch with a good book or watch the red deer wandering the hills over the loch. A family bathroom upstairs is provided for added convenience.
In addition to beautiful landscapes, outside Factor’s House offers ample car parking and a fitted electric car charging point.
Nestled between Loch Brora and the panoramas of Ben Horn and Col-Bheinn, Factor’s House benefits from the beauty and serenity of rural Sutherland, though it conveniently sits just 6 miles from the coastal village of Brora.
Swim, canoe and paddleboard on neighbouring Loch Brora. Stroll along the sandy shores of Brora beach, where the Tarbat Peninsula can be seen. Walk along the coast to Golspie beach, finding Sputie Waterfall and perhaps a few seals and dolphins along the way. While in Brora, pop into the Otter’s Couch, a charming gift shop with locally produced crafts is the perfect place to visit for a keepsake to remember your stay, and also a great opportunity to chat to the friendly locals who have great tips for exploring in and around the village.
The 18-hole golf course at Brora was designed by James Braid and is loved by locals and travellers to the area alike. Afterwards, take a break and grab a bite to eat in the clubhouse. Follow the Brora Heritage Trail, learn the village's rich industrial heritage and involvement with coal mines, salt production, breweries and distilleries. Bask in nature at the Loch Fleet Nature Reserve (under 20 miles) or take a short drive to the River Brora for Salmon fishing, a map of the river can be found in Factor’s House for those with a keen interest.
Discover and walk the array of mountains or cruise around by bike at Highland Wildcat Trails in Golspie (12 miles). While in Golspie, visit the Duke of Sutherland Monument or watch the falconry displays at the magical Dunrobin Castle, which is open seasonally from April to October.
Head back to Brora and dine in at The Curing Yard Restaurant at the Royal Marine Hotel, which selects fresh local produce for its menu. Taste the highlands at nearby distilleries ranging from Brora Distillery (6 miles), reopened after being closed for 38 years, Clynelish Distillery (under 6 miles) and the infamous Glenmorangie Distillery (28 miles). Despite its remote location, there’s plenty of exciting adventures to embark on at Factor’s House, whether that’s an afternoon spent playing golf, chatting to locals or cosying up by the wood-burning stove; a stay at Factor’s House is what you make it.
