One of three gorgeous lodges occupying a glorious position with the beautiful rural landscape spread out before them is Chesters Lodge, tucked away in the picturesque countryside near Lauder (2 miles) in the Scottish Borders.
Guests are welcomed by the bright and airy open plan layout where, once the sliding glass door is pulled back, the space opens up onto the charming terrace where there is a luxurious hot tub. The main living area has been cleverly configured with an island at its heart to separate off the chic kitchen. The wood-burning stove in the corner keeps it all nice and toasty and the dining area is positioned by the window so the view can still be taken in whilst eating.
There are two spacious double bedrooms to choose from, each with their own en suite shower rooms and amazing vistas that can be enjoyed right from bed. What a great way to start the day!
From the garden the striking outlook out over the town of Lauder to Thirlestane Castle in the distance is something one can never tire of and the hot tub out on the patio provides the perfect place to admire it all from. It certainly is a pleasant way to finish off an evening, particularly after spending the day in the great outdoors.
A vast range of activities are on offer across the Scottish Borders with everything from stately homes and ancient abbeys to formidable towers and impressive castles, as well as all of the sporting pursuits imaginable. With the Southern Upland Way walking route directly accessible from the grounds, walkers will also find plenty to keep them busy.
The delightful sight of Thirlestane Castle (2 miles) from the lodge is sure to make a much closer look at the fascinating 16th century castle a must. It is one of the oldest inhabited castles in Scotland and tours are available from May through to September, perhaps followed by one of their renowned afternoon teas.
There are lots of interesting little shops to have a rummage around in Lauder (2 miles) as well as stop off points for lunch along the way. The Lauderdale has a nice menu to choose from and it is also pet friendly so the dog can come along too.
For a bit of pampering, try the amazing spa at Schloss Roxburghe near Kelso (19 miles) where there a range of treatments on offer as well as saunas and an outdoor heated pool to enjoy. There is also an excellent 18 hole parkland golf course there if some of the party would prefer playing a round to relaxing in the spa.
Sunny days are made for trips to the seaside and the pretty sandy beaches on the Berwickshire coastline are reachable in less than an hour’s drive. Coldingham (33 miles) has a particularly lovely stretch that is perfect for beachcombing and there are also good facilities there including handy showers. At nearby St Abbs (34 miles) the National Nature Reserve is home to an astonishing array of seabirds who make their nests perched high up on the clifftops.
With the wonderful capital city Edinburgh so close by and easily accessible by train from Galashiels (9 miles) it is easy to pop up there for a day’s sightseeing or even a night out at the theatre for a show.
