The cottage is perfect for couples and families alike to explore the extensive grounds while being situated near the town of Melrose (6 miles). Offering comfortable accommodation throughout, it has a wood-burning stove at the heart of the sitting room with the added bonus of underfloor heating.
Immediately on entry guests are greeted by a beautifully bright sunroom which then leads into a separate dining area where intimate dining can be enjoyed. Lucky guests can enjoy an aperitif in the sunroom looking over the estate grounds whilst the nominated chef rustles up the evening meal in the modern, well-equipped kitchen.
There are two cosy double bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed, that both boast charming woodland views overlooking the garden. After a long day discovering the delights of the Scottish Borders guests can enjoy warming up in the large walk-in shower which is also ideal for any guests with limited mobility.
Guests are invited to roam the historic Bemersyde Estate and discover all of its far-reaching corners. There are many activities to be appreciated such as fishing in the rich waters of the River Tweed or making use of the sporting equipment and having a knock about on the Estate’s tennis court.
West Cottage can also be booked alongside Bemersyde House for additional guests who may appreciate their own space.
With 12,000 acres of sprawling Bemersyde country, guests can delight in the many walks, particularly along the river Tweed and surrounding woodland, that can be enjoyed from the doorstep of West Cottage.
The estate boasts a hidden gem known as Bemersyde Moss, a nature reserve and SSSI (site of special scientific interest). Wildlife enthusiasts, especially bird lovers, flock to this area to enjoy the sights and sounds of the wild inhabitants of this unique and protected expanse of wetland.
The historic and pretty town of Melrose (6 miles) attracts visitors from far and wide, with a delightful array of independent shops and bistros to choose from. The historic abbeys of the Borders are a particular attraction for visitors, particularly for the walkers of the St Cuthbert’s Way, and Melrose Abbey draws a particular appeal.
One of the most famous views of the Scottish Borders landscape, and one that was named after Sir Walter Scott, can be found a short walk away at Scott’s View. It is no wonder that Sir Walter Scott was known to love this viewpoint, especially as the famous trio of hills, the Eildons are perfectly encapsulated amongst the view. Keen walkers will enjoy the climb up the Eildons to appreciate the far-reaching and commanding vistas for miles around.
Scotland’s capital of Edinburgh is in easy reach (38 miles) and if you would rather not take the car into the vibrant city you can get there in just under an hour if you hop on the train from Tweedbank Station (8 miles).
There are many activities nearby within the Scottish Borders which can be enjoyed by all ages. With many golf courses in the area, one of which being in St Boswells (3.5 miles), you will find that many welcome visitors to experience their courses. If you are looking for a winter sport to try out, Kelso (8 miles) is home to the Border Ice Rink where activities such as ice skating or even curling can be tried out.
If you are happy to travel a little further, Eyemouth (35 miles) has a great little sandy beach along with some of the finest fish and chips. If you happen to pick a glorious sunny day, many flavours of ice cream can be sampled.
