The family bathroom sits between the living area and the bedrooms and includes a rainfall shower over the bath along with a generously sized tub for long soaks after a busy day exploring.

Map & Local

The Scottish Borders has many beautiful walks to embark on. Start along the River Tweed, just 0.5 miles away. Find the Leaderfoot Viaduct towering over part of the Tweed, or venture along the river to Abbotsford House and discover the great neo-Baronial architecture and the gardens at the home of Sir Walter Scott. Visit Scott’s burial place at Dryburgh Abbey, walk up his favourite Eildon Hill, the Mid Hill, or attempt all three. On your way up to the Eildon Hills, find Rhymer’s Stone, inscribed with the legend of Thomas the Rhymer, a Scottish laird and great prophet. Join in on the Southern Upland Way or find the beautiful Scott’s View and the William Wallace Statue.

Meet a raft of Otters at Bemersyde Moss (6.2 miles). Take to the Tweed or nearby Bowden Loch (3.5 miles) for angling opportunities. Keep yourself active with a round of golf at the bottom of the Eildons at Melrose Golf Club (2 miles). Venture further out to Cardrona Golf Course (17 miles), with 18 holes, designed by famous course architect Dave Thomas.

Learn Scottish history and culture at The Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels (4 miles). Find the pink sandstone ruins of Melrose Abbey, founded in 1136 by Cistercian monks. Opposite Melrose Abbey, appreciate the flora at Harmony Gardens. While in Melrose, uncover great Roman history at the Trimontium Museum (4 miles).

Enjoy Shakespeare performances that are occasionally performed at Traquair House (17 miles), Scotland’s Oldest Inhabited House, or enjoy exploring the grounds, gardens and take a break in the café.

After all the adventure, settle in at the King’s Arms (2.4 miles) for a hearty meal and a pint. A mere 2-minute walk away is the Seasons restaurant. Also, another 5 minutes in the same direction will lead you to the Michelin Star restaurant, The Hoebridge. Pop into the Mainstreet Trading bookshop (6 miles), browse their array of books, sit down for a coffee and a treat, or pick up a snack from the deli. The amenities and activities in Edinburgh City Centre can be accessed both by car and train (from Tweedbank station) in around an hour.

A stay at Abbots Cottage offers endless opportunities for exploring the beautiful scenery of the Scottish Borders, and a cosy home to return to at the end of each adventurous day.
