Stonelaw is a spacious and beautifully presented house in a pretty row in the seaside town of North Berwick on the picturesque East Lothian coastline. It sits in an ideal location just a short walk from not one, but two wonderful sandy beaches.

Inside, the sunroom at the back of the house is sure to be the place where everyone gathers together. This warm and bright room has sliding glass doors that showcase the charming garden and can be opened up to really ‘bring the outdoors in’. It is partly open to the attractive kitchen which is well-equipped with a large gas range cooker for whipping up meals and, with the dining table just alongside, it is a great space for socialising.
A wood-burning stove crackles away in the sitting room where there is further comfy seating and also on this level is a handy utility room/shower room where the laundry facilities are housed. Down on the basement level of the house is a large games room with another TV so all viewing tastes can be catered for.
All of the bedrooms are laid out up on the first floor with two lovely double rooms and two single rooms, each with their own colour scheme. The family bathroom has a bath with a shower over and at the top of the stairs a clever little seating nook looks out across the garden to the sea beyond.
Mature plants and trees in the walled garden provide privacy and shelter and the pretty patio seating area allows for outdoor dining. Children and pets will enjoy being able to run around and play freely as the garden is fully enclosed. Parking can sometimes be found right opposite the front door but, if not, there is other free parking nearby.
North Berwick has a good range of shops to browse and there are several different eateries to try out including The Lobster Shack down at the harbour that has incredibly fresh seafood on offer.
Wildlife enthusiasts will love the exhibits at the Scottish Seabird Centre that is also by the harbour. Boat trips head out to the Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth for a closer look at the amazing gannet colony that breed there, with over 150,000 birds in season giving the island a white appearance when viewed from the shore. The trips stop off at Craigleith Island where puffins, guillemots and razorbills can be seen.
East Lothian is known as one of the sunniest parts of Scotland and there are several gorgeous beaches locally that are perfect for making the most of the fine weather. North Berwick itself has four different sandy beaches that all beg to be explored so there is scope for scenic beach walks, rock pooling and beach combing. Two of these can be reached in literally just a couple of minutes’ walk from the door.
The surrounding coastline is dotted with numerous golf courses with three to choose from in North Berwick alone. A must see on the agenda is the impressive Tantallon Castle (3 miles) set on a rocky cliffside that was once a key defensive stronghold for the Douglas family with stunning views out to sea and the Bass Rock.
At the NB Distillery just outside North Berwick they produce various gins, vodkas and rums rather than the whisky that one might expect. Tours are available and there is the opportunity for a tasting session.
No holiday here would be complete without an outing to Scotland’s beautiful capital Edinburgh and it only takes half an hour to get to the city centre from the nearby train station. Those looking to shop will be spoilt for choice and there are lots of landmarks and historical points of interest to take in as well.
