This architecturally designed house is set on a hill in mature sloping gardens with a terrace (with furniture) and wonderful views west to the islands of Lismore and Mull.
Inside, the living area is very stylish (sharp-eyed guests may notice a nod or two to Rennie Mackintosh) and made light and bright by the fact that the west facing wall is almost entirely of glass.
Open plan and with polished wood floors, other major features are the central fireplace column and the open tread stairs leading to two upstairs bedrooms, a very elegant bathroom with separate shower and a second sitting/TV room.
Downstairs are two double bedrooms and a further bathroom. In addition to its superb situation, Kinvara really is a most comfortable and well-equipped house which cannot fail to please.
The main views are to the front but there is no lack of interest at the back of the house. The dining area faces this way, which makes it particularly attractive not only for the morning sun, but also for viewing the many birds which visit the sheltered rear garden. Having windows to every side not only makes the house very bright, but also means that it’s easy to keep an eye on younger children enjoying the freedom of the large garden.
Oban offers all facilities, some good restaurants (particularly seafood), a railway terminal and is the starting point for ferries to many of the western islands (day excursions to Mull and Iona are very popular).
It is also the place from which to take boat trips to see the local wildlife, such as basking seals and seabird colonies.
To the south is the only 'Bridge over the Atlantic' at Clachan and attractive Seil Island. You can continue down to Kilmartin Glen, with its prehistoric cairns and stone circles and Lochgilphead, by which time you are well on your way to the Mull of Kintyre.
To the north, across Connel Bridge, there is another lovely beach just north of Benderloch, a Sealife Centre at Barcaldine and riding at Lettershuna near Appin, where you can canter across the sand beside iconic Castle Stalker.
Glencoe can be reached in less than an hour and will be favoured by keen walkers, climbers and, in winter, skiers. Another 12 miles will bring you to Fort William in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, with more opportunities for climbing, mountain biking and skiing.
