Map & Local

Port Appin is a picturesque fishing village on a peaceful, secluded peninsula between Oban (20 miles) and Ballachulish (18 miles), and 30 miles away from Fort William.

Just up the road, in the bay, stands the iconic Castle Stalker. The Castle Stalker Visitor Centre is a perfect spot for a coffee or light lunch. Further along, you can visit the riding stables at Lettershuna, then head to Ballachulish, which boasts a golf course.

Beyond Ballachulish, the stunning scenery of Glencoe (19 miles) awaits walkers and climbers, and at Fort William (30 miles), you can tackle the mighty Ben Nevis, Britain's tallest mountain. Aonach Mor (38 miles), near Fort William, provides excellent skiing in winter and mountain biking trails in summer.

Fort William also offers a wide selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. From here, you can also take boat trips on the beautiful Loch Linnhe to see basking seals, a leisure centre, and a golf course. It's the starting point for the scenic Jacobite steam train journey to Mallaig.

To the south, Oban (20 miles) offers all amenities and serves as the gateway to many of the west coast islands. On your way there, a right turn at Benderloch will lead you to the stunning sandy beach at Ardmucknish Bay.

Kinlochleven (25 miles) is popular with climbers and winter sports enthusiasts. It is also home to The Ice Factor, which offers ice and rock-climbing walls and children's play areas, providing a full day of fun for the whole family.

The cottage boasts proximity to two of the country's most prestigious dining establishments, Aird's Hotel and the Pierhouse Restaurant, and is conveniently near a small general store, a post office, and a gallery gift shop.

Just a short stroll to the pier, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner, you'll find the ferry that takes you across to Lismore—bicycles welcome! This ferry ride offers a fantastic opportunity to explore this remarkable little island, which features a single-track road running from one end to the other.

Lismore is a treasure trove of history and geology, with human habitation dating back to Neolithic times. In 1974, an Appin stone arrowhead from 3500 BC was discovered and is now displayed at the Heritage Centre. The well-preserved Broch at Tirfuir showcases Pictish occupation from around 2000 years ago. Additionally, you can enjoy a fascinating walk to Coeffin Castle, named after the Viking prince who established the original stronghold there.
