The Boathouse is a truly splendid conversion of a boathouse, which sits, as you would expect, at the water's edge of Loch Etive, some 5 miles east of Oban on Scotland's lovely west coast.

While accessed from the A85 which runs behind and above it, the cottage still contrives to be detached and secluded. It is surrounded by woodland and has a small beach alongside, with a decked terrace from which to enjoy the fabulous views across the water.
Inside, there is a bright and inviting living room with comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove to snuggle up by. With windows to both sides and French doors to the lochside decked balcony at the front it is a real ‘day and night’ room. By day, attention will be on the loch outside and the constantly changing pattern of light on the water. At the other end of the room is the cheerful wood-burning stove, which will surely become the focal point as darkness starts to fall.
The excellent and superbly appointed kitchen-diner is modern and well-equipped, again with French doors out to the water's edge. There is also a cosy double bedroom and shower room on this level.
Upstairs the accommodation is a delight and is very spacious too. The twin bedroom is light and bright and the bathroom, which likewise features coombed ceilings and Velux and porthole windows, is just as charming. This really is a place to relax and unwind.
Outside, private parking (for one car only) is available with a track that leads down to The Boathouse.
Connel village, which has a shop/PO and restaurants, is just a short walk from the cottage.
Oban has all facilities and is also the starting point for boat trips to Mull, Iona and some of the other small isles. There is a lovely beach just 3 miles to the north at Tralee Bay in Benderloch (there is karting there too) and another 10 minute drive will bring you to the Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine.
You can continue further up to Appin (17 miles), where there is riding (cantering across the beach at low tide is an unforgettable experience) and further to Ballachulish which stands at the entrance to Glencoe (33 miles), so beloved of walkers and climbers. You can also continue towards Fort William and the Road to the Isles. So much choice - in fact, far too much to fit into just a week!
To the east an interesting rainy day activity would be a visit to the Cruachan Centre, where a hydro electric power station has been built in the heart of the mountain. To the south, you can cross the ‘Bridge over the Atlantic’ at Clachan and visit Seil Island. Or you can make for picturesque Inveraray (32 miles) on the shores of Loch Fyne, with its attractive black and white houses along the loch front. Inveraray Castle and the historic jail are both open to the public. Just to the north of the town, at the head of the loch near Cairndow, are the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and also the Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens.
