Everything is beautifully presented throughout with a lovely welcoming atmosphere that greets guests on arrival. Right at its heart is a charming sitting room that is sure to be where everyone gathers around the cosy wood-burning stove, with a magnificent view that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. As there are a choice of places to relax it is easy to get away for a peaceful moment with a good book in front of the other wood-burning stove in the elegant, wood-panelled drawing room.
The sitting room leads through to the dining room and as it is partly open to the kitchen, where the huge range cooker helps makes light work of whipping up meals, the nominated cook can still be part of the conversation at the table.
Laid out all on one level, the four bedrooms all lie off a central hallway. The en suite master bedroom has a fantastic outlook towards the coast and as the bed faces the window it can even be admired from bed – quite a sight to wake up to! There is a second attractive en suite double bedroom and two twin rooms that again have gorgeous sea vistas.
An enclosed grassed garden surrounds the house with a vast, raised lawn that children and pets will love and views out towards the dramatic shoreline. There is plenty of off-road parking and a separate garage that has been converted into a great games room with a full-sized pool table, table tennis and darts.
Familes or friends looking to holiday together may be interested in also booking the lodge's sister property Dunmor Coach House just a minutes' walk away.
Balvicar (1.5 miles) has a well-stocked village shop for groceries and they also hire out golf clubs and buggies for those who fancy a round or two on the 9 hole course at the Isle of Seil Golf Club there.
The area is known for its fresh, local produce with wild venison and venison BBQ packs that can be delivered right to the door. Excellent, fully prepared seafood can also be delivered and it can be either ready to cook or ready to eat.
Wildlife spotting boat trips head out from Ellenabeich (1 mile) and there are interesting day trips over to Iona and Staffa to see its wonderful puffin colony. There is also the chance to go out to the amazing corryvreckan whirlpool, an impressive natural phenomenon that is actually the third largest whirlpool in the world!
Right by the Atlantic Bridge that provides access to the island is the Tigh a Truish Inn (3.5 miles) that serves excellent food. Its name means ‘house of the trousers’ as it was the place where kilted islanders would have to change into trousers before crossing over to the mainland due to the kilt ban that was in force at the time.
In the bustling town of Oban (17 miles) are a wide variety of shops, pubs and eateries with something to suit everyone. For those wishing to explore a bit further afield, the pier is the main transport hub for the area with ferry services running out to lots of the surrounding islands.
Whisky fans will love a tour around Oban Distillery where they can see the entire distillation process up close with knowledgeable guides to answer any questions and a tasting at the end of it all. At Ganavan Bay (18 miles) just north of Oban is a pleasant stretch of sandy beach that is the ideal place to spend a lazy day or afternoon beachcombing or paddling in good weather.
