Overview

The house makes for the ideal holiday base with the scenic coastline being so close by and the rest of the island and beyond just begging to be explored. There is something new to appreciate in each and every room, particularly in the wood-panelled sitting room where a wood-burning stove ensures cosiness. With its patio doors pulled back, the sights and sounds of the countryside can be enjoyed with birds chirping in the trees and sheep bleating in the fields.

Cooking becomes an absolute pleasure in the incredibly well-equipped kitchen with its huge range cooker and elegant dining area just alongside. The door out to the garden can be opened up to bring in the fresh air and the whole room has a great bright and airy feel to it.

The master bedroom is beautiful presented and has the added benefits of a king-size bed, contemporary en suite shower room and window seat to admire the views out over the surrounding scenery from. There is also a second double bedroom and attractive twin bedroom upstairs.

As it was previously two cottages that have been cleverly combined, there is a utility area and second staircase at the other end of the house which leads up to a separate twin bedroom ‘suite’. The patio gets lovely morning sunlight due to its south easterly aspect and the large gravelled grounds provide plenty of room for parking as well as turning space for multiple cars. This is a working farm so care should be taken as there may be agricultural vehicles around.

The house is just across from Dunmor Lodge so larger parties can book both together for a joint holiday that still allows for some space and privacy.

Map & Local

Head to Balvicar (1.5 miles) for provisions or to try out the excellent 9 hole golf course where gorgeous coastal views can be enjoyed whilst perfecting that swing.

An Cala Gardens just half a mile away is beautiful to walk around with its azaleas, lillies, rhododendrons, magnolias and amazing cherry blossom creating a beautiful riot of colour in season.

Make sure to pop over on the ferry to Easdale Island (just a 10 minute ride) to learn more about the area’s interesting history in the Easdale Island Folk Museum. The island has a claim to fame as each year it plays host to the World Stone Skimming Championships where local slate stones are skimmed across the water, attracting over 300 competitors who travel from all over to try their luck.

Seafari Adventures offer RIB boat excursions from the Ellenabeich harbour (1 mile) out to see the famous local whirlpool, the Corryvreckan, which is an incredible phenomenon. There are various wildlife trips where otters, dolphins and whales can be seen out in their natural habitat and the islands of Iona and Staffa can be visited.

Uninhabited Staffa is particularly fascinating as it is home to an incredible number of seabirds (including puffins!) that can be seen nesting up on its cliffs. The island’s amazing hexagonal basalt columns were formed by volcanic activity near 60 million years ago and really need to be seen to be believed. The boat also stops to allow for the walk out to the wonderful Fingal’s Cave.
