Overview

This spacious house is great for socialising as the main living accommodation is open plan with a full height ceiling and the seating, kitchen and dining areas all in together. Huge picture windows and sliding glass doors allow the light and the highland beauty to flood the living spaces.

Heat and hot water are provided by an air-source heat pump supplying the underfloor heating and a statement Jotul wood-burning stove fire provides all the warmth and ambience needed after days spent exploring the great outdoors.

The smart, modern kitchen is equipped with everything needed and more, and the dining table has an astonishing mountain view. The two walk-in shower rooms (one on each floor) feature designer fittings and tiling.

Upstairs the glass balustrades around the mezzanine level add to the feeling of space and show off the gallery lighting above the living area. The large bright bedroom upstairs has a king-size bed and a single bed making it ideal for families, with another large double (king) bedroom downstairs.

Fixtures and fittings are all top quality, with Samsung smart TV & soundbar, plus Fyne Audio floor-standing hi-fi speakers delivering quality sound from a hifi Bluetooth receiver and amplifier. The house features contemporary oak finishes and furniture chosen to match throughout.

Parking is provided in the gravelled area right by the front door and the grassed garden is bordered by oak, birch, pine and a huge old grandfather fir. A stone patio and outdoor table are accessed from the huge sliding glass door, blending the outdoors and indoors further. Red squirrels and pine martens are regular visitors and there is a huge variety of birdlife to spot all year round.

The house name Anamchara is Gaelic meaning 'friend of the soul' or 'spiritual advisor' and was carefully chosen by the owner to reflect this special Highland place. The garden is right beside the track for the Pap of Glencoe (and the perfect finish to a traverse of the Aonach Eagach) and a variety of beautiful walks are possible from the doorstep.

The garden is partly shared with the adjoining property Am Bothan, but privacy is respected with both properties having separate aspects. Larger parties may wish to book both properties in order to holiday together but still have separate space and privacy.

Map & Local

The path that leads up Sgorr na Ciche (known as the Pap of Glencoe) is just by the driveway so it can be tackled straight from the door. The route up the mountain on the Aonach Eagach ridge is quite rough but those reaching the summit are rewarded with sublime views of the surrounding mountains and lochs.

With over 40 different munros (peaks over 3,000 feet in height) to choose from in easy reach, walkers and climbers will have plenty of chances to add to the tally of munros they have ‘bagged’. The West Highland Way passes nearby at Altnafeadh where the famous view of Buachaille Etive Mòr can be admired and the section of the route known as the ‘Devil’s Staircase’ zig-zags steeply upwards.

It is less than 5 minutes’ drive to Glencoe village where there is a small shop to pick up groceries at and a hotel restaurant to pop into for lunch or dinner. Food is served all day at the well-known Clachaig Inn (1.5 miles) and their bars have an impressive range of over 400 different whiskies for those looking to try a dram or two.

The Glencoe Mountain Resort (12 miles) offers 20 runs for skiing and snowboarding in winter as well as downhill tubing and mountain biking trails in the summer months. A little further afield at the Nevis Range Mountain Resort (23 miles) the gondola makes light work of the ascent up to the ski slopes.

There is a small supermarket in Ballachulish (2 miles) or Fort William (17 miles) is the place to head to for further shopping. Over the Ballachulish bridge at the Pixel Spirits Distillery (4.5 miles) tasty gins and rums are produced with a real highland influence. They also run gin and rum school experiences with distillery tours and the chance to try hands-on distilling using a mini copper still.
