Overview

What may look like a traditional cottage from the outside has actually been imaginatively extended with the welcome additions of a modern conservatory and bright and airy dining room that fully maximise the available space and make the very most of the desirable setting. The owner lives in the adjoining converted byre, so can be on hand for any queries but is also happy to leave guests to enjoy their stay.

It may be hard to decide where to spend time with the south-facing sitting room, cosy snug with inviting open fire and conservatory to choose from. The wonderful vista from the conservatory may well swing that decision as its elevated position with Loch Fyne and the surrounding farmland laid out before it is pretty hard to top. Bi-fold doors at one end pull back to reveal a raised deck with seating, a BBQ area and the icing on the cake – a luxurious hot tub with absolutely amazing views!

The stylish, contemporary kitchen is incredibly roomy with bar stools around the central island for informal breakfasting or sipping a drink whilst meals are being prepared on the large gas range. Steps then lead down into the dining room where the glass walls and roof windows show off the lovely vista of the surrounding countryside.

Up in the well-appointed and particularly spacious master bedroom on the first floor the modern en suite shower room has the added bonus of a great view of the loch. The other two bedrooms have flexible layouts as they can be set up with either twin beds or comfy super king-size beds depending on requirements while the family bathroom has both a walk-in shower and a bath to wallow in.

At the front of the house is a south-facing seating area that is a real sun trap and, once the gate is shut, the garden behind the house is fully enclosed so it is ideal for children and pets to run and play in.

Map & Local

Foodies will be delighted to hear that the Oystercatcher Bar and Restaurant which has a well-deserved reputation for its fine seafood is just a couple of minutes’ drive away. It is incredibly popular though so it is well worth booking that special meal in advance.

The coastline that runs through Otter Ferry (0.5 miles) is part of Argyll’s Secret Coast route that goes through Kilfinan, across to Tighnabruaich and then up to Glendaruel and is a great way of exploring the Cowal peninsula and taking in some of the fascinating wildlife by either car or bike.

Portavadie (11.5 miles) is known for its marina where impressive boats can be seen bobbing out in the water and is also home to a range of swimming pools including a splendid, heated outdoor infinity pool in an idyllic setting directly overlooking the loch. Bike hire is available and for further exploration ferries head over the waters of Loch Fyne to Tarbert that is known as the ‘gateway to the Kintyre peninsula’.

A general store can be found in Kames (10 miles) for provisions and the village also has an 18 hole golf course that is well worth trying for a round or two. Stop off at the dog friendly Kames Hotel for a meal or the chance to sample its staggering range of different single malt whiskies, gins and fine ales.

Beachy days can be spent on the beautiful sands of Kilbride Bay (12.5 miles) that is wonderfully unspoilt and often quite deserted. If some island hopping is in order, it is just a short trip across the water from Colintraive (11 miles) by ferry for a day trip to the Isle of Bute or from Tighnabruaich (12 miles) it is possible to take a trip on the spectacular Waverley Paddle Steamer which really is an experience not to be missed.

Well equipped cottage overall, but kitchen equipment a little tired, and a shame no access to a washing machine/dryer.
