Overview

Port na Mine's location is astonishing: a direct path leads you to the shores of Loch Etive, to a boat jetty, and, behind Port na Mine, the nearby mountain Ben Cruachan is waiting to be scaled.

This spacious home comfortably sleeps 12 guests, is thoughtfully decorated throughout and offers plenty of room to lounge with your loved ones. The utility space is well-equipped and ideal for returning to after wandering the 30 acres of ancient woodland and neighbouring hills, available to explore at your will. The kitchen is well-appointed, featuring ample seating, an Aga, and a pantry; the adjacent dining room has plenty of seating and triple-aspect windows to capture the spectacular view of the front garden.

The extended family room is great for spending time with your loved ones or cosying up with a good book from the shelf. Another living space is accessed up 3 stairs to a landing with chairs, then up three more to the living room and has an electric stove for cosy evenings in. Three bedrooms can also be found on this level, a double bedroom with a zip-and-link bed and an original stone wall feature. A bathroom separates this space from a twin room with an ensuite bath. Also here is a double bedroom with a handy bathroom adjacent.

Up another flight of stairs, there are three more bedrooms, including a super-king bed with an ensuite bathroom and an attached shower. Two twin bedrooms, a family bathroom and a small separate shower room complete the floor.

Port na Mine has ample storage in the garage for any bikes and outdoor equipment needed for adventures on the west coast. Plenty of parking is adjacent to Port na Mine. There is ample outdoor seating for dining al fresco or simply appreciating the vistas.

While the spacious garden is a beautiful space to relax, children must be supervised as there is a small pond at the back of the house. Please also note that access to this property is via a rough forestry track, so while it is very peaceful, care should be taken when driving.

Map & Local

Port na Mine itself is situated in a magnificent location; however, it is also ideally placed for exploring the abundance of stunning scenery and attractions of the west coast of Scotland. Port na Mine shares the forestry track with the excellent Inverawe Smokehouse and shop, where guests can enjoy delicious food and walking trails just down the road.

Located in the village of Taynuilt, Port na Mine sits on the shores of Loch Etive by Ben Cruachan, meaning plenty of options for hiking, walking, biking trails, wandering nearby Inverawe woods and Inverawe country park and appreciating Argyll’s beautiful nature.

Go fishing on the stunning River Awe. A 10-minute drive away, hidden within Ben Cruachan Mountain on the shores of Loch Awe, is Cruachan Power Station. Discover its brilliant engineering history and refuel at the Hollow Mountain Café. Scale Beinn Lora, where at its peak, you’ll find magnificent views over to the Isle of Mull and Lismore.

Being on the west coast, there’s no shortage of incredible beaches, such as Tralee Bay (15 miles) and such as Ganavan Sands (18 miles). Take a scenic cruise with Etive Boat trips, which offer a variety of different trips showcasing stunning west coast scenery.

Oban (16 miles) is a picturesque coastal town with a wide variety of excellent seafood restaurants to enjoy. The Waterfront Restaurant, EE-USK and George Street Fish Restaurant all serve fresh local and Scottish seafood. A little further out is The Pierhouse Hotel (26 miles) in Port Appin, but it is worth the journey for an award-winning dining experience. Visit Oban Distillery for a tour and tasting or play a round of golf at the Glencruitten course. There are many castles to explore during your holiday, including Dunstaffnage and Dunollie.

Oban is widely known as the “Gateway to the Isles” and day trips to various islands of the west coast can also be on your agenda during your stay at Port na Mine. It’s just 45 minutes on the ferry to Mull; Iona, Staffa, Lismore and Kerrera can also all be accessed from this coastline.

Glencoe Mountain (42 miles) is available for skiing in the colder months. If a day in the city is on the agenda, Glasgow can be reached from Taynuilt Station in 2 ½ hours, or just over 2 hours by car from Port na Mine.
