A Stunning Part of Scotland
To get to Strontian, turn off the Oban to Fort William road just north of Onich and hop across Loch Linnhe on the Ardgour to Corran car ferry (10 minute journey, no booking necessary) then continue for about 13 miles west and you come to the village at the head of Loch Sunart. This pretty and peaceful village has the unexpected distinction of having had the element strontium named after it when it was first discovered there in 1790!

These excellent log cabins are spread around the hillside on the edge of the village, all with plenty of ground around them and with superb views of the water and the mountains from their vantage point over the loch.
The village, with shops, petrol, bistro and a couple of hotels, is within strolling distance and beyond it the road narrows to single track and winds westwards along the side of the loch through a wonderful countryside of old oak woods and breathtaking shoreline.
The comfortable cabins are an ideal base for relaxing amid this glorious scenery, with opportunities to explore Ardnamurchan, Sunart, Morven and Moidart and even take a further easy ferry hop from Lochaline (17 miles) across to the Isle of Mull.

We recently stayed in BluebellCottage, Loch Awe and experienced a very relaxing week in this cosy cottage set among woodlands in the village of Eredine. Although the weather was not particularly kind to us we enjoyed watching the red squirrels and a wide variety of wild birds eating from the feeders available on the decking area. The Welcome pack was greatly appreciated as was the plentiful supply a logs for the wood burner which made the cottage extra cosy. We were supposed to stay at the cottage 2 weeks before but due to a storm we had to postpone our journey because of falling trees an a power cut in the village. The owners Cliff and Lorraine kindly kept us up-to-date regarding the weather conditions and the cottage was made available for our stay two weeks later. We would recommend Unique Cottages properties and over many years have found them excellent.

The cottage was surrounded by trees, lovely and warm with a great shower. Near to lots of wee towns and beaches which was great. However we felt it needs some TLC, a good deep clean as there were cobwebs in light shades, a new basket for firewood, something to stop the rugs from slipping, perhaps some new furniture, it feels very thrown together and worn. An enjoyable stay, however we won’t be returning.

I prefer to book my holidays using Unique Cottages because you can actually deal with a a person rather than a computer. I have always found Unique Cottage staff to be very friendly and helpful. Another huge plus is that there is never a long wait for the call to be answered. Definitely worth 5 stars. However on this occasion the cottage details missed off various important points and in one instance were downright misleading. Your details gave useful contact number in case of emergency/difficulties etc what the details did not say is that is absolutely no mobile signal in or near the cottage. Furthermore your confirmation & instruction letter inferred by giving a payphone telephone number that there would be a payphone in the cottage, there is a point for one but no telephone!! There is no mention on the cottage details about the approx one mile of estate track leading to the cottage, this is in a dreadful state, full of potholes and really only useable by a 4x4, we managed but anybody using a car with low profile tyres would be in real trouble.

Clean spacious accomodation in a great location. No problems with any of the facilities. Good value for money. Spent some time touring the area, had a drive up to Moray Firth to see the dolphins, red kites on Cromerty, over to the Cairngorms and a drive through Glen Coe but the highlight was Glen Affrick which is about 20 minutes away. It was like a scene from Autumnwatch. Oh and there's Loch Ness on the doorstep! Scotland in Autumn is stunning. Would I recommend? - Yes Would I go again? - Yes
