Sitting within the pretty village of Salen on the foreshore of Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, Tigh Na Mara commands amazing views across the water and the hills beyond.
The property has access to the loch from two private beaches as well as a favourite fishing rock at the bottom of the garden. The private beaches are suitable for launching a small craft and a mooring in Salen Bay is available to guests for boats with a relatively shallow draught.
This is a house which has wow factor in spades. With its elegant, high-quality furnishings, Tigh na Mara represents the height of luxury and style and sets the scene for an unforgettable holiday. The enormous open plan living area has plenty of comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove at its centre with a stylish exposed flue. With three walls being made entirely of glass it feels as though you are surrounded by the beautiful loch.
There is a large dining area and an equally spacious kitchen area that is well-equipped with everything that you could need. There is underfloor heating and patio doors that lead out to a large covered seating area and deck (with furniture and barbecue).
There is a separate snug with a TV, games and an extensive library of books. Also on the ground floor is a king-sized bedroom, a twin bedroom, a family bathroom with shower, a utility room and an additional shower room with WC.
Upstairs is a further king-sized bedroom and a twin room, both with double aspect sea views and a family bathroom with shower. Throughout the house there is lots of exposed woodwork, beams, pillars and rafters, even in the bedrooms.
Tigh Na Mara is one of our most popular properties, so if it is already booked for the dates required then its nearby sister property Tigh Na Cladach may be available.
Located in the most westerly area of the UK mainland, yet still just over an hour's drive to the major tourist centre of Fort William and Oban, is the fascinating peninsula of Ardnamurchan.
The peninsula offers a dramatic backdrop of magnificent mountains and rugged moorland alongside a coastline of white sands. Also, being one of the least-populated areas in Britain, it offers a wonderful range of wildlife including otters, seals, deer, pine martens, wildcats and a vast variety of birds, including buzzards and eagles.
There are wonderful walks to be had in the surrounding mountains and in the winter months, if skiing is your pleasure, there are a choice of slopes near Fort William or Glencoe, both of which can be reached in around an hour.
Within a 5 to 10 minute walk is the Salen Hotel which has a bar and restaurant serving lunch and dinner. There is also a very good shop at the end of the jetty that is licensed and has a range of fresh seafood. The nearby villages of Acharacle (2 miles) and Strontian (7 miles) also offer a hotel, shops, a petrol station and cafe.
Should you wish to explore further afield, you can head west to Ardnamurchan Point, passing through Kilchoan (which operates a ferry crossing to Tobermory, Mull in the summer months). You go by a Stevenson lighthouse at the westernmost point in mainland Britain and the amazing beach at Sanna. Heading north from Salen you join the 'Road to the Isles', with the silver sands of Arisaig and Morar. There is also a wonderful seaside golf course at Traigh (which means 'beach') and a ship from the port of Mallaig to the Isle of Skye.
