Overview

The house’s name means ‘grass island’ in Gaelic and it offers a wonderful mix of traditional charm and modern comforts. In the sitting room guests can enjoy the soothing glow of the multi-fuel stove from the cosiness of the sofa at the same time as admiring the gorgeous, ever-changing vista. The kitchen is well-equipped and laid out with the cooking and dining areas all in one and a handy utility room off it to neatly house the laundry facilities.

With the choice of two twin bedrooms and an en suite double bedroom, the accommodation is spacious and comfortable with beautiful sea views that can be seen from bed in two of the bedrooms. Although the house is laid out on one level inside, there are steps leading from the large parking area up to the door.

Picnic style seating has been set up outside, positioned in a prime spot for taking in the breathtaking outlook over Sanna Bay to the islands of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna off in the distance. The wonderful dark skies overhead allow for star gazing and perhaps even experiencing the spectacle of the Aurora Borealis.

This is a wildlife lover’s paradise where otters can be spotted wandering along the seashore and golden and sea eagles can often be seen soaring in the skies above. Pine martens may well be tempted to visit by their favourite treat of peanut butter sandwiches and dolphins and even basking sharks can be spotted at sea.

Map & Local

A circular walking route (just over a mile long) leads to the stunning beach at Sanna Bay, with magnificent scenery along the way. The rich machair along the coastline allows an amazing array of pretty wildflowers to thrive and the white sands of the beach honestly wouldn’t look out of place in the Caribbean.

The Kilchoan House Hotel (5 miles) is the ideal place for a drink or a break from cooking and the nearby grocery shop has a good range of basic supplies, as well as a petrol station.

If some island hopping is in order, the crossing from Kilchoan Pier (5.5 miles) takes just over half an hour and arrives into the charming, colourful town of Tobermory. It is a fantastic place for a day trip spent touring the Tobermory Distillery, finding out about the island’s history at the Mull Museum, or playing a round of golf on the picturesque course. Car hire is also available on the island for those wishing to venture further.

At the most westerly point of the peninsula (and mainland Scotland) is the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, one of the famous Stevenson lighthouses. It stands at 35 metres high and was built by Alan Stevenson back in 1849. It is possible to climb all the way up to the top of the tower to fully appreciate the view, although it is quite a trek involving over 150 steps!

This area is just the place to re-connect with nature and the RSPB site at Glenborrodale is home to a delightful array of plants, dragonflies and butterflies as well as skylarks, merlins, golden eagles and wood warblers to name but a few.
