Overview

The Schoolhouse is a traditional stone cottage nestled in majestic Glenfinnan, boasting a modern interior and extension. The house has its own rare addition: see the famous Harry Potter train cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct from your very own garden at The Schoolhouse.

Cosy in your magnificent surroundings of lush forest and mature plants. A stylish, fitted kitchen offers plenty of space to whip up hearty meals while you gaze out at the beautiful surroundings. The dining space is thoughtfully decorated with paintings and photography of the local Glenfinnan area. In the main lounge, spend the evening with the wood burner lit and cosy in front of the smart TV after an exciting day exploring the Scottish Highlands. A telescope in the lounge lets you take in the magnificent rural dark sky where hundreds of stars and constellations can be seen on clearer nights. A handy WC serves the downstairs floor.

Upstairs, the master bedroom offers a king-size bed, a double bedroom and a bright twin bedroom; all keep guests comfortable and cosy for a restful night’s sleep. There are also two smart shower rooms with rain head showers that complete the top floor.

Outside, a small stream runs alongside the parking area, where there’s ample private parking for 3 cars. The stream makes for an attractive addition to the grounds of The Schoolhouse, but also means care should be taken with children outside.

Map & Local

The Schoolhouse is situated in a wonderful spot in Glenfinnan, famous for the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which can either be seen from your garden at The Schoolhouse, or you can take a short hike to see it up close. Enjoy the Glenfinnan Dining Car where you’ll dine on tasty food, marvelling at the view down Loch Shiel and take a tour of the Station Museum exhibition.

Try fishing on the Glenfinnan Estate (0.5 miles), or from The Schoolhouse, an under 10-minute walk brings you to the impressive Glenfinnan Monument on the stunning shores of Loch Shiel. Appreciate the wonderful views down Loch Shiel from the Church of Saint Mary and Saint Finnan across the road from The Schoolhouse.

Also, a 10-minute walk brings you to Glenfinnan House Bar and offers a brilliant array of traditional Scottish cuisine and locally sourced ingredients.

Take a hike or bike a West Highland mountain circuit, leaving from the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre; if the weather is clear, you’ll catch sight of many summits, including the great Ben Nevis. A shorter walk around Glenfinnan begins at the Viaduct, along the River Finnan and is also set between the high mountains at the head of Loch Shiel.

The outdoor capital of the UK, Fort William, is around 17 miles from The Schoolhouse. On your way there, stop in at The Lochy pub (14 miles). Fort William has plenty to offer; try a round of golf, hire a bike from Off Beat Bikes and take on the abundance of mountain trails the West Highlands has to offer.

The white sandy shores at Camusdarach Beach are 23 miles west of The Schoolhouse. The nearby coastline at Mallaig Harbour (26 miles) is a picturesque fishing village and a treat to explore.

For skiing, the Nevis Range is 20 miles from The Schoolhouse and also offers excellent mountain biking trails, climbing/ walking routes and the UK’s only mountain gondola, or scale the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, itself. Refuel at The Snowgoose Café or The Trails End Café and Bar and take home a memento from the gift shop. Return to The Schoolhouse and cosy in after all the exciting adventures the Scottish Highlands have to offer.
