Tigh a Bhradan (pronounced Tie a Vradan, meaning the Salmon House) is a delightful terraced cottage right on the shore in the equally delightful village of Applecross, which is situated on Scotland's lovely west coast directly opposite Skye and Raasay.

In olden times, everything had to come into Applecross by sea, but now you can drive there over the spectacular Pass of the Cattle or take the equally 'scenic route' round the coast along the shores of Loch Torridon and the Inner Sound.
Sitting next door to The Old Post Office and with splendid views of Skye and Raasay either from the front windows or the little private garden (with furniture) right on the sea shore, Tigh a Bhradan has recently been completely refurbished by its owners to make a warm and comfortable holiday home with the added benefit of being very close to the village pub that serves famous bar meals.
Inside the cottage is inviting and full of charm. There is a snug and cosy sitting room with smart, comfortable seating around the TV. The heart of the house is undoubtedly the large, bright and very well-equipped dining kitchen with its stylish colourful tiling. It is the perfect place for relaxed family meals and has the added bonus that the cook doesn’t have to miss out on all the fun. It is kept cosy by the wood-burning stove and there is even a seat alongside so you can toast your toes after a day spent out and about exploring.
From there a turning pine staircase leads up to the two bedrooms with their coombed ceilings and dormer windows from which to admire the views. A neat family bathroom completes the accommodation.
This is a place to chill and relax. Stroll on the shore and explore the rock pools, watch out for the varied wildlife, or, if you are determined to be energetic, there is wonderful walking in the surrounding hills, or in mighty Torridon itself. Mountain walks and kayaking can be arranged in the village.
The little lanes of the Applecross village are an idyllic oasis after the dramatic scenery of your journey, fringed as they are by banks of wild iris and orchids. There is an interesting Heritage Centre and the Applecross Trust has opened estate land to the public with waymarked trails where you stand an excellent chance of seeing deer and other wildlife.
Within walking distance to the north of the village is the wonderful Walled Garden in the grounds of Applecross House, with its excellent Potting Shed restaurant. There is also a village shop just a short distance out of the village to the south.
Chances are that, once here you will want to simply enjoy. However, if you came ‘over the top’ it would be a pity not to explore the coastal road in to Applecross. It affords wonderful sea views and the chance to discover some more sandy beaches, which you may well have all to yourselves. Shieldaig (the name is Norse for the Loch of the Herring) is the first place of any size you will come to, a most picturesque village strung out along the shores of Loch Torridon, from where it is possible to take boat trips to view the local marine wildlife. Beyond that are the wonderful mountains of Torridon that are an absolute mecca for walkers and climbers.
