Views, location, comfort - everything you could want in a holiday home and just what is on offer at The Croft House!

This beautifully refurbished detached house sits in an elevated position above Gairloch Bay, with stunning views of the Torridon Mountains and Skye.

It is situated on the edge of the popular West Highland village of Gairloch (shops, hotels, pub and cafe) in about half an acre of enclosed garden, with the living room and all the bedrooms facing the sea and the hills.

With new solid oak floors in the hallway and living room, the house has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard throughout. The living room also has an attractive beamed ceiling and a multi-fuel stove to augment the efficient electric heating. The comfortable seating is centred round the stove for maximum cosiness and there is even a telescope at the window to ensure that no passing seal or bird will be missed.

The large, well-equipped dining kitchen is separated from the sitting room by an arch, a very satisfactory arrangement that keeps everyone within earshot, while still being a little separate. There is a large double bedroom on this level, as well as a handy shower room.

Upstairs are two further bedrooms, a double and a twin, that have both been comfortably and stylishly furnished in restful colours with splashes of Scottish charm. A family bathroom with bath and shower over completes the indoor accommodation. Having bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs and down makes the accommodation here very practical as well as stylish.

Outside there is parking at the side of the cottage. The enclosed grass garden in which The Croft House stands provides a vantage point for sitting out looking over the bay, though with the shore so close it will be tempting to make straight for the water’s edge.

Map & Local

Just a little further along the road above which the cottage stands is the extensive beach at the appropriately named Big Sand.

The single track road continues only as far as the Rua Reidh lighthouse, the last part of which follows a spectacular route along the cliff tops. Back in Gairloch village there is pony trekking and the possibility of boat trips to view the area's plentiful marine and land wildlife. Gairloch Golf Club (said to be 'possibly the best wee golf course in the Highlands') sits on the south edge of the village, although those who are less confident about their abilities have the option of the pitch and putt at Strath.

Anglers will be spoilt for choice with opportunities for both freshwater and sea fishing close by and climbers may well choose to head straight for the famous mountains of Torridon, while those seeking more leisurely pursuits should not fail to visit the equally famous sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe.

Most of all, however, what brings enthusiastic holiday makers back to this spot year after year is the combination of the stunning coastal and mountain scenery, as well as the peace and quiet and gentler pace of life here. The Croft House certainly is just the place from which to enjoy it all.
