What seems like a small cottage from the front is actually deceptively spacious inside with an open plan living area at its centre that is just the place to relax together in the evenings. Cosy seating has been positioned to make the most of the wood-burning stove and the wooden beams and nautical memorabilia that is dotted around adds to the charm.
The kitchen area has everything needed easily to hand and meals can be enjoyed at the large farmhouse dining table. French doors by the dining area open up so you can enjoy the garden while you eat and there is seating on the patio area by the doors where there is a BBQ for al fresco dining. A neat utility room houses the laundry facilities and has useful drying space for coats, etc and there is a bathroom and handy double bedroom downstairs so those with mobility issues don’t have to tackle the stairs.
Upstairs are the master bedroom that has wonderful sea views and an en suite bathroom with corner bath, a further double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a shower room.
The garden is full of mature plants and trees and a little path leads up to a raised garden room that has cosy seating from which to admire the view out over the houses to Loch Carron and the impressive mountains beyond.
It is just a short walk around the corner to the pretty harbour where the mild microclimate allows palm trees to thrive. Plockton has a pub, a shop and a choice of places to eat on the harbourside should a break from cooking beckon. There is also an excellent fish and chip shop to try out.
A great way of getting a real sense of the beauty of the local scenery is from the water so it is well worth hiring a boat or sea kayak from the harbour in order to take to the water and explore.
In July each year the whole village comes to life when the annual Sailing Regatta comes around bringing in sailors and spectators from all over the UK for two weeks of boat races, special social events and a festival atmosphere.
Hundreds of seals bask on the rocks around the bay and Calum’s Plockton Seal trips run out for a closer look. They are so confident you will see seals that they even guarantee that if you don’t see any your trip is free! It is not just seals either – sea eagles, otters and even dolphins can often be seen.
Heading south, the bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh (6 miles) provides easy access over to the amazing Isle of Skye for a day trip to take in some of the many sights.
