Map & Local

North Strome is a picturesque hamlet in Wester Ross which nestles on the shores of the hill-fringed Loch Carron, at the centre of one of the Scottish Highland’s popular tourist destinations.

Nearby Lochcarron is a gem of a village with white-washed cottages and a population of just over 900 people – along with a reputation for being the longest in Scotland, stretching out over two miles along the north shore.

Just three miles away from Park House, it offers an impressive selection of amenities and services, which include a grocery store and garage shop, and a good variety of places to go out for something to eat or drink.

It is also a location which boasts an abundance of wildlife and scenery, and is an ideal base to explore the west coast of Scotland, with easy access to the Isle of Skye, Applecross peninsula, majestic mountains of Torridon, and the Loch and sandy beaches at Gairloch.

It is paradise for anyone who loves the outdoors, or those seeking to sit back and enjoy the views. And it’s certainly not short on visitor attractions, with a long list of things to see and do.

A must-see is the historic Strome Castle, which was built in the 1400’s and stands on a rocky outcrop on the north shore of Loch Carron, looking across to Stromeferry on the south shore. A battleground for rivalry between the MacDonalds and the Mackenzies, it was eventually blown up by the latter clan in 1602. Beneath the cliffs there also lies a rare shell clam reef, thought to be the largest in the world and now a Marine Protected Area.

Lochcarron even has its own nine-hole golf course in a superb loch side location, to which visitors are welcome. The Lochcarron Weavers Shop with its luxury cashmere and tartan, is also nearby.

Just six miles away, Attadale Gardens offers visitors the chance to explore ancient paths that wind through woodlands, over bridges, waterfalls and exotic ponds. It is also home to one of the world’s most scenic rail routes, the Kyle Line, which runs from Inverness to the Kyle of Lochalsh, and has a station at Attadale.

From arts and crafts, heritage, and food and drink, to seal-spotting, climbing Munros, hill-walking, diving, sailing, fishing or water sports, this is a destination which truly has something for everyone.

Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is located just over 60 miles away and offers extensive shopping, leisure and entertainment facilities.
