Map & Local

Due to its coastal location, there are many adventures to embark on during your stay at No 1 Cove. Watch the Loch from your cosy window seat or venture further and explore the mountains of Wester Ross, which boast some of the oldest geology in the world, formed some six hundred million years ago. Also nearby, Cove Harbour is a short walk and a handy boat launching site for guests bringing a boat. The closest sandy beach, Firemore Beach (6 miles), is ideal for canoeing, swimming and wandering along the uninterrupted sandy bays, often noted to be visited by few people, making it a haven of tranquillity.

Pop into the nearest village at Poolewe for local amenities and the popular Bridge Cottage Art Café. Opposite the village, lies the renowned Inverewe Gardens, a striking subtropical garden full of rare species, an array of wandering wildlife, historic sites and amazing plant diversity. Marvel at Inverewe Viewpoint and embrace the scenery at the gateway to wilderness in the Scottish Northwest Highlands, and in the summer, take a boat tour finding seabirds, seals and occasionally otters enjoying their natural habitat.

Gairloch Beach (14 miles) is tranquil and has plenty of facilities, including a cold water tap for pets and neighbours the 9-hole Gairloch Golf Course, which also promises magnificent landscapes. Fishing and angling permits are available for lochs, rivers and sea angling with various companies, found mainly in Gairloch. Gairloch Trekking Centre offers horse and pony trekking on private pathways through beautiful forestry and streams. Stop for a break at The Alley at Strath Ristretto Bar, or a sweet treat at The Barn Café Coast Coffee Company, open seasonally and located in Gairloch. Discover the former nuclear bunker at Gairloch Museum.

Another sandy beach, aptly named Big Sand (18 miles), holds impressive views over to the Isle of Skye. Thrill seekers can climb Slioch or An Teallach; more adventure can be found at the impressive Ardessie Falls (30 miles).
