Inside, the sitting room is warm and inviting with comfy seating and an open fire to curl up in front of. It is kept light and bright by the large picture windows that frame the wonderful seascape outside. There is further seating by the windows so you can use the binoculars to spot the dolphins, seals and whales that are often seen out in the water.
The colourful kitchen is well-equipped and, as it is open to the dining area, the nominated cook doesn’t have to miss out on any of the fun. From the dining area French doors open out onto a charming patio that is the perfect place for lingering al fresco meals spent admiring the scenery. The kitchen is supplemented by a useful utility room that houses the laundry facilities and there is a WC on this level, as well as handy downstairs double bedroom with en suite shower room.
From the dining area a staircase leads up to a spacious landing that has more seating from which to enjoy the amazing outlook from. Off the landing are a small double bedroom and a twin bedroom that share a family bathroom.
Outside there is parking right by the door at the rear of the cottage and to the front is a large, enclosed grassed garden with pretty patio area (with furniture).
Ard Thurinish is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity and the ever changing views out towards the isles of Rum and Eigg. There are also some pretty spectacular sunsets that will be sure to delight photographers and as you are right on the coast there is sea fishing nearby.
The Sleat peninsula is easily reached by ferry from Mallaig in Lochaber (45 minute crossing), arriving into Armadale (4 miles). If you prefer, you can take the Skye bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh over to Kyleakin (25 miles) on the east coast of the island.
The Bright Water Centre in Kyleakin has an exhibition on Eilean Ban, the island beneath the Skye bridge, with boat trips that run out to see the its diverse wildlife which includes seabirds and otters. The centre also has information on the history of Gavin Maxwell, the famous author of ‘The Ring of Bright Water’ who used to live on the island.
There is a lovely walk to the sandy beach at Camas Daraich just along the road. Ardvasar (3.5 miles) has a small grocery shop and hotel/restaurant and the hamlet of Armadale (4 miles) has a petrol station/PO and a well-stocked farm shop. Boat trips run out from the harbour in season and there are several excellent restaurants in the area if you fancy a break from cooking.
