Balnoe Cottage was a lovely cottage in a very remote area. We were initially told we couldn't go to the cottage till 6pm on Friday and had to leave at 9am following Friday due to cleaning. Then in later correspondence, after the holiday, we were told we could have been there from 4pm, 2 hours makes a difference. 9am on departure day is way too early, considering it's the last day of your holiday, you only really get 6 days there.
As for the cleaning, after reading the rules from yourselves and the cottage handbook, we had to do most of the cleaning anyway, i.e. strip the beds, take the rubbish to the end of the lane etc, so why do the cleaners need all day? The windows were covered with smears and marks, the skirting boards were covered in dust and cobwebs, under the sofas were awful and some of the pans couldn't be used due to the handles falling off. I expected to hoover and wash the dishes but not spend most of our last day cleaning. We actually left Thursday afternoon so as not to have to clean up more before the 9am deadlline, thereby only 5 days of a holiday.
We discovered it was a bit too remote for us, but lovely none the less. We love Scotland and went to some beautiful places.
