At Scotstarvit Farmhouse, that is set in attractive grounds in the heart of the Fife countryside near impressive St Andrews (10 miles), guests have the chance to experience their very own slice of country living.
This substantial house offers incredibly spacious accommodation that has been tastefully presented throughout. The elegant sitting room with its wonderful high ceilings has a lovely welcoming feel to it with a wood-burning stove that keeps it snug and, as it is open plan to the dining area, it is a great place to while away the evenings. The house has the added bonus of a second snug/TV room to separate off into with a huge, L-shaped sofa to snuggle up on and another wood-burning stove to take advantage of.
Doors from the breakfasting kitchen open out onto a fantastic, sunny terrace with outdoor seating that has been set up to create the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet with a morning coffee. Anyone with mobility issues will find the downstairs double bedroom particularly handy with its en suite wetroom style shower room that can also be accessed from the hallway.
Upstairs the two incredibly spacious double bedrooms can be configured with super king-size beds or twin beds for added flexibility if required. Both bedrooms are beautifully dressed and light and bright due to their large bay windows that show off the delightful views out over the surrounding countryside. Off the half landing there is the enviable choice of a smart shower room with a large, walk-in waterfall shower or an elegant bathroom with a chic free-standing bathtub that just begs to be made use of.
Out in the pretty garden beyond the terrace is a large lawn that children and pets will love running and playing on. From the front garden the outlook over the surrounding farmland can be fully taken in from the rolling Fife hills to Cupar off in the distance. It is just a short wander to Scotstarvit Tower, a 16th century towerhouse with a fascinating history and Hill of Tarvit Mansion where tours are available.
Cupar (2.5 miles) is the place for stocking up on supermarket supplies and there are plenty of other interesting little shops to look around as well as pubs and restaurants for evenings out. The train station in Cupar allows for easy day trips into Edinburgh to explore the delights of the amazing city.
The nearby Scottish Deer Centre (4 miles) has many different species of deer to see as well as wolves, bears and even Scottish wildcats that have the most adorable kittens but are sadly critically endangered now.
This certainly is golf country being so close to the famous ‘home of golf’ St Andrews (10 miles) where the well known Old Course (the oldest in the world!) is set and the R&A World Golf Museum showcases over 500 years of golfing history. St Andrews is also known for its gorgeous beach and excellent University that Prince William and Kate Middleton (as she was then) both attended and was where they first met.
Golfers can sample one of the ten golf courses that can be found in St Andrews or the 18 hole parkland course at Elmwood Golf (2.5 miles). Those preferring to get around on a mountain bike will want to head to the various trails that run through Pitmedden Forest (19 miles).
Exciting watersports such as windsurfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding can be tried out in Elie (12.5 miles) as well as more serene activities such as canoeing, boat trips, pedal boating or simply just relaxing on the scenic sandy beach. The Fife Coastal Path walking route runs along this whole stretch of coastline, passing through Elie.
