Forester’s Cottage sits within the grounds of Edenwood House, a grand mansion on the outskirts of the bustling market town of Cupar. A tree-lined gravel driveway leads to the cottage, shielded from neighbours who work on the estate by a large fence at the rear and trees and hedges to the front.
A spacious entrance hall welcomes guests to this stunning rural property, leading to the main hallway. With many windows and cosy underfloor heating, the hallway is filled with light, drawing guests to the front rooms, which all overlook the garden.
Sleeping up to six guests, Forester’s Cottage has two lounges: an elegant sitting room featuring an open fire and patio doors leading onto the garden, and a surprisingly spacious snug, with a wood burning stove, comfortably seating six and featuring a small office area.
The fully fitted kitchen is spacious and features an oil-fired Aga, a small table, and a chic central island ideal for prepping, cooking, serving, dining, or simply chatting. The kitchen also offers an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, coffee machine, microwave, and an excellent selection of pots, pans, and crockery. A washing machine, traditional overhead drying rack, and generous storage can be found in the convenient utility room next to the kitchen.
A glass door from the kitchen leads to the sunroom, where a large dining table and chairs create a wonderful setting for meals. Double doors open onto the fully enclosed garden, allowing children to play safely while adults relax and plan the days ahead.
On the ground floor, guests will find one of the cottage’s three bedrooms. This gorgeous double bedroom features four windows, allowing sunlight to stream through, and a super-king-size bed which can be converted into two single beds if required. It also benefits from an easily accessible en-suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle.
Upstairs, Forester’s Cottage has been tastefully decorated and furnished to match the high standards of the lower floor. It offers two bedrooms: a lovely double bedroom with a super king-size bed, convertible into two singles, and a slightly smaller bedroom with a double bed. There is also a thoughtfully designed upstairs bathroom with a bath and handheld shower.
Forester’s Cottage provides the perfect base for a holiday in Fife, ideal for golfing, fishing, walking, or simply spending quality time with friends and family.
Forester’s Cottage is in the heart of the Howe of Fife, an area renowned for its fertile green fields, rolling hills and lush woodland. With Cupar (1.5 miles), St Andrews (10 miles), and Edinburgh and Dundee only an hour’s drive away, Forester’s Cottage is also ideally situated for experiencing the best of urban life.
Independent, often family-run, shops, coffee shops, restaurants and pubs are a highlight in Cupar, which also has several supermarkets. For younger guests, Cupar offers a swimming pool and excellent parks, while Barbarafield Riding School runs lessons, hacks and, during school holidays, fun days for children. Cairnie Fruit Farm is also worth a visit and, depending on the season, you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, gooseberries, cherries, sunflowers and pumpkins.
As well as the world-famous Old Course and nine other celebrated courses at St Andrews, there are over 40 more excellent golf courses across Fife, including Cupar’s highly rated 18-hole course, Crail Golfing Society’s historic Balcomie Links (18 miles), and Kingsbarns (18 miles), considered one of the world’s top 100 golf courses. Or book a round at nearby Kingarrock Hickory Golf (2 miles), the historic 9-hole course at Hill of Tarvit, and play with the clubs, balls and rules of over 100 years ago.
Fife was once the stronghold of the Picts, and there’s no shortage of evidence of this ancient tribe, from the giant standing stones that dominate the fairway of Lundin Ladies golf course (8 miles) to the 2,000-year-old cave paintings at Wemyss (11 miles). St Andrews is as rich in history as it is in golf, with its cathedral, castle and university highlighting the importance of this ancient seat of learning and religion. Nearby Falkland Palace (9 miles), once a royal hunting lodge, has also found fame as an Outlander filming location.
There are many excellent walking routes near Forester’s Cottage. Climb to the top of the Lomond Hills (10 miles) for spectacular views across the Kingdom of Fife and beyond. Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims on the final section of the Fife Pilgrim Way, from Ceres (2 miles) to St Andrews. Or head to the coast for the clifftop section of the Fife Coastal Path, from Elie (18 miles) to Cambo Sands (18 miles).
The coast of Fife is spectacular, especially the East Neuk with its fishing villages, high cliffs, historic harbours and beautiful beaches. Elie’s golden beach lies in a sheltered bay where kayaks and paddleboards can be hired from Elie Watersports. Anstruther Harbour (17 miles), with its shorefront pubs and award-winning fish and chip shops, is always full of life, while St Monans (16 miles) is the place to go for a dip in the restored Victorian tidal pool. And at Crail (19 miles), you can sit on the harbour wall and enjoy freshly cooked shellfish from the Lobster Hut.
No matter what you do or where you go when staying at Forester’s Cottage, you’ll always have a story to tell at the end of the day!
