Inside, everything in the living area is open plan so it is a great place to gather in the evenings and enjoy relaxed meals together or make plans for the next few days’ activities. One wall is made entirely of glass that allows the sunlight to stream in and the wonderful views of the surrounding countryside to be fully appreciated.
Cosy seating has been set up around the wood-burning stove with a dining area behind and a modern kitchen area with access to a neat utility room with laundry facilities.
The hallway provides useful drying room and storage and laid out all on the one level are the four attractive bedrooms - two bright and airy double bedrooms with king-size beds and two colourful twin rooms. With three different shower rooms to choose from (including a wet room) there should certainly be no need for queuing in the mornings.
From the living area doors open out onto a decked area that overlooks the sizeable garden with the door to the rear of the house and parking right alongside. The rough grassed garden has expansive views out over the surrounding countryside and rolling hills.
The Whitebridge Hotel in the village of Whitebridge (1.5 miles) serves bar meals and has some excellent real ales to sample. Fishing on a group of nearby lochs can also be arranged at the hotel with rods and tackle available for hire.
Passing through Whitebridge is the South Loch Ness Trail that gives cyclists the chance to explore on two wheels whilst taking in some magnificent views of the surrounding area.
The RSPB reserve at Loch Ruthen (17.5 miles) is a Special Protected Area as it is home to half of the UK’s Slavonian grebe population as well as many ospreys, curlews, red-throated divers and tufted ducks.
Pretty Fort Augustus (10 miles) is only about 15 minutes’ drive away, sitting right at the bottom of Loch Ness on the Caledonian Canal with an impressive staircase of locks that are a marvel to watch boats negotiating. There is also a Nessie sculpture to have your photo taken with just in case you don’t spot the real thing!
Bikes can be hired in Fort Augustus and the canal’s towpath is ideal for gentle bike rides and perhaps stopping off for a picnic along the way.
Nessie lovers will want to head around to the other side of the loch to Drumnadrochit (29 miles) where there are two different monster museums with interesting exhibits on the elusive creature.
A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the ‘capital of the Highlands’ Inverness that is reachable in under an hour’s drive.
