Rebuilt and renovated into a romantic cottage, The Mission Hall promises a tranquil woodland retreat combined with modern, homely furnishings, ideal for a couple seeking a restful getaway.
Upon entrance, you’re welcomed by a cosy open plan living accommodation highlighting the woodburning stove at the heart of the room. Comfy seating has been placed in front of the log burner, perfect for cosying up at the end of a long day exploring the estate. The neat kitchen area is located alongside the seating and is ideal for preparing quick meals or romantic dinners.
Separated by three steps, the welcoming double bedroom area is perfect for couples to drift off to sleep at the end of an adventurous day exploring the estate and activities in Sutherland.
For a wee hideaway, the bathroom facilities are excellent and spacious. The colourful shower room has a walk-in shower and laundry facilities that are neatly tucked away.
Outside, the rough garden surrounding the cottage is fenced off with acres of countryside lurking behind. As the garden is among acres of beautiful woodland and fields, pets should be kept an eye on. The red squirrels are a constant presence around the cottage, so as well as tranquil seclusion, you’ll have some quiet company in the form of wandering wildlife.
Private parking can be found adjacent to the cottage. A few outdoor chairs and a log store can be found around the back of The Mission Hall.
The Croick Estate has plenty of activities and areas to explore, 5,000 years of human habitation to discover, access to neighbouring glens, seasonal stalking which can be arranged and a catch and release system in place for keen fishing enthusiasts. The estate itself has enough to keep your agenda full and exciting during your stay.
Take your dog to Badvoon Forest circuit for a long stroll or try a challenge together at nearby twin-summited Corbett, Càrn Chuinneag, for a longer hike and impressive landscapes.
Golfers will want to try a round or two at Bonar Bridge & Ardgay Golf Club, described as a ‘mini-Gleneagles’, once voted as the most picturesque 9-hole golf course in Scotland, which can be attributed to the sublime views from all over the course. Afterwards, dine at the restaurant for a bite to eat after a hard day out on the greens.
You’re spoilt for choice with golf courses, Royal Dornoch (23 miles), Golspie (31 miles) and Brora (37 miles) are easy driving distances from The Mission Hall. Bring your dog along to the beach at Brora which features lovely sandy bays. Dornoch (23 miles) has another attractive stretch of sandy beach as well as a great selection of eateries to enjoy with your loved one.
Watch salmon leap at the Falls of Shin Visitor Centre (16 miles) and marvel at the waterfall. Test your shot at The Highland Shooting Centre (19 miles). The romantic Dunrobin Castle (open seasonally) is just under an hour away and is a worthwhile trip.
The Kyle loop, a 35-mile circular cycle route that starts in Dornoch and passes through Bonar Bridge, can be joined for a challenging day-long ride. Along the way, whether cycling or driving, a stop at the stunning Struie viewpoint, known as the ‘million-dollar view’, is an absolute must to take in the expansive view of the Dornoch Firth.
The city of Inverness (50 miles) is accessible for a day of shopping or sightseeing. Inverness Castle is set in an imposing position overlooking the River Ness, and the tower can be climbed for wonderful views of the city and, on a good day, as far as the Black Isle.
